Obesity is the excessive or abnormal accumulation of fat oradipose tissue in the body that impairs health via its association to the riskof development of diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, andhyperlipidemia. Current treatments available for obesity includesvarious diets such as meal replacement, calorie restriction, mediterranean dietetc. which are effective when combined with good physical exercise regime. Pharmacotherapyincludes drugs such as orlistat, liraglutide (appetite suppression), naltrexone(appetite suppression) etc. which are effective but are not devoid of sideeffects and their long term effects on the health are unknown. Physical activityand/or exercise are commonly included as components of lifestyle interventionsfor weight loss. There are no specific recommendation mentioned on type andintensity of exercise. Various studies using aerobic, resistance or combinationof both types of exercises have shown to have health benefits. It is need ofthe moment to develop an effective regime for prevention as well as managementof obesity and obesity related co morbidities. Suryanamaskara is physical yogicpractice which involves sequential combination of yogic postures performeddynamically in synchrony with the breath. Suryanamaskara has been found to beeffective in management of obesity among women. Usually, it is practiced in adynamic manner which is not convenient to people who have hypertension, lowstrength, morbid obesity or any other musculoskeletal ailments. This study isto find out whether static Suryanamaskara will be able to avail satisfactoryresults. So, that it can be incorporated for the individuals for whom dyanamicSuryanamskara is not convenient. This study was planned based on ourhypothesis that these two methods of Sun salutation based on different speedswould have different effects on different parts of the body in individuals withobesity and will avail similar results.
