Benign or low-grade malign intracranial disease which is treated via a frontolateral, pterional or temporal approach.
Preoperative:
- pt. already been operated contralaterally through one of these approaches
- recurrent approach ipsilateral
- disease of the jaw that disables patient's masticatory function (e.g. abscess, fracture...)
- pt. with condition that requires postoperative radio-/chemotherapy
- toothless patients
- pt. in coma or dementia
Postoperative:
- persisting neurological deficit that affects mastication (facial paresis >H&B III°, lower cranial nerve paresis, hemiparesis) 3 months after surgery
- persisting loss of olfactory function 3 months after surgery
- new condition affecting masticatory function (e.g. abscess, facture of the jaw)
- recurrent approach ipsi- or contralateral via a frontolateral, pterional or temporal approach
