Lithium Is Making a Comeback

Lithium, an element from the Big Bang, is now a popular ingredient in wellness products like bath soaks and supplements, despite limited research on its effectiveness. Historically, lithium has been used to treat various ailments and was even an ingredient in 7 Up. While high doses are used for mood disorders, low-dose lithium's benefits remain uncertain, with mixed results from studies on its effects on suicide rates, dementia, and longevity. The lack of patentability and FDA regulation for dietary supplements means companies have little incentive to conduct rigorous research, leaving consumers in a gray area regarding its safety and efficacy.
