Benzoic acid present in tincture of benzoin as well as the strong alcoholic content of the common pharmaceutical preparation are thought to play antiseptic and dehydrating effects on the oedematous tissue . Benzoin resin is thought to form a fine coating under the adhesive tapes and over skin, abrasions, wounds, and oral lesions when used as a topical adhesive agent. Antiseptic preparation maintains skin integrity and protects the skin from adhesive ingredients and body fluids.
Indicated for mild antisepsis of skin, cuts, and abrasions.
