PetVivo and Orthobiologic Innovations Partner to Advance Osteoarthritis Treatment for Pets

• PetVivo and Orthobiologic Innovations (OBI) are collaborating to advance clinical trials for Spryng with OsteoCushion Technology, a treatment for osteoarthritis in animals. • The trials will focus on managing joint issues in the elbows and stifles of canine patients, evaluating the injection of collagen-elastin hydrogel microparticles. • OBI's expertise will support the development, marketing, and expansion of Spryng, aiming to provide long-term relief and improve joint function in pets. • Spryng is designed to replicate the function of natural cartilage, offering a shock-absorbing matrix for damaged joints.

PetVivo Holdings, Inc., a biomedical company specializing in therapeutic medical devices for pets and equines, has announced a partnership with Orthobiologic Innovations (OBI), a research and development company focused on regenerative and sports medicine. The collaboration aims to advance clinical trials and commercialization of PetVivo's Spryng with OsteoCushion Technology, a veterinary device designed to treat osteoarthritis in animals.
The partnership will focus on conducting clinical trials of Spryng, particularly for managing joint issues in the elbows and stifles of canine patients. These studies will evaluate the injection of collagen-elastin hydrogel microparticles into the elbows of dogs with osteoarthritis and into the stifles of dogs that have undergone a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) procedure. OBI will also support additional studies planned for the coming year.

Spryng with OsteoCushion Technology

Spryng with OsteoCushion Technology is an intra-articular injectable veterinary device designed to address damaged cartilage in joints associated with lameness. According to PetVivo, the injection works by forming a shock-absorbing matrix that interacts with synovial fluid to mimic the structure and function of healthy joint cartilage. The microparticulate is composed of collagen, elastin, and a carbohydrate, creating a hydrated material with lubricating and viscoelastic properties similar to natural cartilage.

Expert Perspectives

Sherman O. Canapp Jr., DVM, MS, CCRT, DACVS (SA), DACVSMR, president and CEO of OBI, stated, "As a double-boarded orthopedic and sports medicine small animal veterinarian, my primary focus is on returning patients to full function as quickly and safely as possible using innovative evidence-based approaches. I look forward to working with PetVivo and their Spyrng with Osteocushion Technology to deliver long-term relief from the pain associated with osteoarthritis, by addressing the underlying structural issues, so that we can restore mobility and improve patient joint function over a longer period."
John Lai, PetVivo president and CEO, added, "We chose to team with OBI because they are consistently on the frontline of new medical technologies. Sherman and Debra bring impressive knowledge and experience, particularly from their work in helping to develop new medical products that focus on the physical health of small animals and arthritis interventions. This makes their team a great fit with furthering our clinical trials and expanding the market adoption of Spryng. They will help us build product awareness and accelerate the growth and the expansion of our market reach across the US."

Osteoarthritis in Animals

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease characterized by the gradual breakdown of articular cartilage, leading to thinning of the cartilage, joint effusion, and osteophyte formation. The condition can result from trauma, infections, immune-related disorders, or developmental malformations. Symptoms include lameness, joint swelling, muscle wasting, and fibrosis around the joint capsule.
