Tamil Nadu has initiated the second phase of its 'Uttasathai Uruthi Sei' scheme, focusing on providing essential nutrient support to pregnant women with identified deficiencies. The launch event, marked by the distribution of health kits to expectant mothers, signals an intensified effort to combat maternal and infant malnutrition across the state.
Tamil Development and Information Department Minister S P Saminathan highlighted the scheme's impact, stating that a significant 77% of beneficiaries showed improvement in health during the first phase. This progress underscores the potential of targeted nutritional interventions in enhancing maternal and infant well-being.
The scheme identifies beneficiaries through thorough examinations, ensuring that nutrient kits are provided to those who need them most. This targeted approach extends to children aged 0-6 years in anganwadis, addressing nutritional needs from early stages of development. The government encourages pregnant women to actively engage with primary health centers and childcare centers to access available provisions and support.
In addition to the scheme launch, Minister Saminathan participated in the 71st cooperative week celebrations, distributing loans to self-help groups and farmers, and flagged off a vehicle to raise awareness against child marriage. These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to community welfare and social development in the region.
