Adaptive Biotechnologies Partners with Pfizer in $890M TCR Discovery Deal for Rheumatoid Arthritis
核心洞察
Adaptive Biotechnologies announced two licensing agreements with Pfizer to leverage its T-cell receptor discovery platform for rheumatoid arthritis (搜索) research and AI-driven drug development.
The partnership includes identifying disease-causing TCRs (搜索) in rheumatoid arthritis (搜索) patients and licensing Adaptive's proprietary TCR-antigen datasets for multiple immunology applications.
Adaptive could receive up to $890 million in potential milestones under the rheumatoid arthritis (搜索) agreement, with Pfizer responsible for all development and commercialization activities.
Adaptive Biotechnologies Corporation announced two non-exclusive licensing agreements with Pfizer Inc. on December 15, 2025, designed to harness the company's proprietary T-cell receptor (TCR) discovery capabilities for rheumatoid arthritis (搜索) research and broader immunology applications. The partnership could yield up to $890 million in potential milestone payments for Adaptive.
TCR Target Discovery in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Under the first agreement, Pfizer will utilize Adaptive's immune medicine platform to identify disease-causing TCRs (搜索) as potential therapeutic targets in rheumatoid arthritis (搜索). Adaptive has identified autoreactive or "offender" TCRs that could potentially cause disease in patients with autoimmune indications.
The collaboration will focus on applying Adaptive's platform to Pfizer's clinical samples to identify the subset of common TCRs (搜索) that are significantly enriched in rheumatoid arthritis (搜索) patients. Pfizer will use these data to accelerate its research and development of potential therapeutic candidates for the autoimmune condition.
"Using our AI-enabled immune medicine platform, Adaptive has amassed a treasure trove of immune receptor data along with an enhanced understanding of T-cell biology," said Chad Robins, chief executive officer and co-founder of Adaptive Biotechnologies. "This deep and well-characterized immune system data has the potential to inform discoveries across immunology programs that may lead to next-generation therapeutics in RA."
Proprietary Dataset Licensing
The second agreement grants Pfizer access to Adaptive's TCR-antigen datasets for research and development across multiple immunology applications. Adaptive has generated what it believes is the largest and highest quality TCR-antigen binding dataset relative to what is publicly available.
Pfizer has licensed certain Adaptive TCR-antigen data for developing and training the company's AI and machine learning models to accelerate research and drug discovery in multiple disease areas. This non-exclusive, multi-year data access agreement includes upfront payments and potential annual licensing fees, though specific financial terms were not disclosed.
Financial Structure and Development Responsibilities
Under the rheumatoid arthritis (搜索) agreement, Adaptive will lead target discovery activities to identify disease-specific RA TCRs (搜索), while Pfizer will be responsible for all development and commercialization of therapies identified using Adaptive's target discovery work. Adaptive will receive an upfront payment and may be eligible for additional potential data delivery, development, commercial and sales milestones totaling up to approximately $890 million.
Platform Technology
Adaptive Biotechnologies operates as a commercial-stage biotechnology company focused on harnessing the adaptive immune system to transform disease diagnosis and treatment. The company's proprietary immune medicine platform reveals and translates the genetics of the adaptive immune system with scale, precision and speed.
The platform applies to partnerships with biopharmaceutical companies, drug development initiatives, and clinical diagnostics across two business segments: Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) and Immune Medicine. The company's commercial products and clinical pipeline enable the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of diseases including cancer (搜索) and autoimmune disorders (搜索).
