Alebund Pharmaceuticals (search) (Jiangsu) Limited began trading on the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited on June 29, 2026, under the stock code 09637.HK, marking a significant milestone for the Shanghai-based biopharmaceutical company focused exclusively on kidney disease. The Global Offering comprised 56,755,400 H Shares at an Offer Price of HK$22.60 per share, generating total gross proceeds of approximately HK$1.283 billion (approximately US$164 million) before any exercise of the Over-allotment Option. If the Greenshoe is exercised in full, gross proceeds could reach approximately HK$1.475 billion (approximately US$189 million), with net proceeds estimated at approximately HK$1.181 billion after deducting offering expenses.
Market reception proved exceptionally strong. By the close of the first trading day, Alebund's share price had risen 103.54%, closing at HK$46.0 per share. The Hong Kong Public Offering was approximately 963.56 times oversubscribed, while the International Offering was approximately 19.77 times oversubscribed. Cornerstone investors — including GIC, Loomis Sayles, RTW, SymBiosis, Tencent, Cormorant, Dymon Asia, GF Fund, China Universal, E Fund, and Loyal Valley Capital — subscribed for approximately US$81.5 million (approximately HK$639 million), representing approximately 49.78% of the shares offered.
A Pipeline Built on Breadth and Differentiation
Alebund has constructed what it describes as the industry's broadest pipeline by renal indication coverage, encompassing seven product candidates and one commercialized product, Mircera®, a long-acting erythropoiesis-stimulating agent for renal anemia (search). The pipeline addresses hyperphosphatemia (search), IgA nephropathy (search) (IgAN), diabetic kidney disease (search) (DKD), focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (search) (FSGS), and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (search) (ADPKD), among other indications.
The lead asset, AP301, is a best-in-class oral phosphate binder for hyperphosphatemia (search) in chronic kidney disease (search) (CKD) patients on dialysis. Its registrational Phase III trial in China has met the primary endpoint, and the company plans to submit a New Drug Application (NDA) to the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in the near future. A China-U.S. Phase III multi-regional clinical trial (MRCT) for AP301 has completed enrollment.
AP306, a first-in-class pan-phosphate transporter (search) inhibitor, has received Breakthrough Therapy Designation from the NMPA. Rights outside Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan have been licensed to R1 Therapeutics (search). In China Phase II data, AP306 monotherapy reduced mean serum phosphate by 2.51 mg/dL from baseline, with approximately 95% of patients achieving serum phosphate below 5.5 mg/dL by Week 7–8, compared with approximately 50% for the active control, sevelamer carbonate, in the same trial.
AP303, a first-in-class differentiated dual PPAR (search) agonist, is designed to delay or halt CKD progression and has received Orphan Drug Designation for ADPKD from the U.S. FDA. Completed Phase I trials in Australia and China demonstrated favorable safety and tolerability in healthy volunteers and DKD patients, with a clear, robust dose-dependent pharmacodynamic signal. Alebund has received IND clearance from both the NMPA and the FDA for AP303 and expects to initiate a basket Phase II clinical trial in DKD and IgAN patients in the second half of 2026.
AP308, a first-in-class engineered recombinant IgA protease (search), aims for a functional cure of IgAN. The company plans to submit an IND to the U.S. FDA and China's NMPA in the third quarter of 2026.
Addressing the "Silent Majority"
Kidney disease represents a vast and historically underestimated therapeutic area. More than 800 million people worldwide live with chronic kidney disease (search), including nearly 124 million patients in China. In hyperphosphatemia (search) alone, approximately 76% of dialysis patients in China have uncontrolled serum phosphate levels — substantially higher than in the United States (52%) and Japan (39%).
