Altamira Therapeutics Expands Nucleic Acid Delivery Platform with DNA Technology and Advances Spin-off Plans
核心洞察
Altamira Therapeutics introduced GenePhore (搜索)™, a new DNA delivery adaptation of its xPhore (搜索)™ platform, demonstrating efficient cell transfection and protein expression for applications including DNA vaccines and gene editing.
The company's associate Altamira Medica AG (搜索) achieved regulatory milestones with Bentrio (搜索)® nasal spray, receiving EU MDR clearance and Chinese NMPA approval for allergic rhinitis (搜索) treatment.
Altamira reduced its operating loss from $6.9 million in 2024 to $4.4 million in 2025 while advancing preparations for spinning off its nucleic acid delivery business.
Altamira Therapeutics Ltd. reported significant advances in its nucleic acid delivery technology platform and improved financial performance for 2025, while progressing toward a strategic spin-off of its core delivery business. The company expanded its xPhore (搜索)™ platform capabilities and achieved key regulatory milestones for its nasal spray product.
Platform Expansion with DNA Delivery Technology
In 2025, Altamira extended its nucleic acid delivery offerings through the introduction of GenePhore (搜索)™, an adaptation of the xPhore (搜索)™ technology platform specifically designed for DNA delivery. In vitro experiments demonstrated efficient transfection of cells and reliable expression of encoded proteins, addressing what the company describes as a major challenge in delivering DNA molecules such as plasmids.
The new GenePhore (搜索) technology opens potential applications in DNA vaccines, gene editing, and protein replacement therapies. This addition complements Altamira's existing RNA delivery modalities: OligoPhore™ for short RNA, SemaPhore™ for linear mRNA, and CycloPhore™ for circular RNA.
"We could demonstrate that our versatile xPhore (搜索) delivery platform works well also with circular RNA and DNA, filed additional patents, advanced development projects with our partners and signed up new ones," said Thomas Meyer, founder, Chairman, and CEO of Altamira Therapeutics.
Industrial Development and Partnership Progress
Altamira advanced the xPhore (搜索) platform toward industrial applications with improvements in formulations, manufacturing processes, and stability. The company collaborated with partners to evaluate specific xPhore-based nanoparticles for feasibility and efficacy, with plans to discuss licensing agreements upon positive evaluation outcomes.
The nucleic acid delivery business operates through Altamira's Swiss subsidiary, Altamira Therapeutics AG (ATAG). During 2025, ATAG raised $0.7 million through mandatory convertible loans, which will convert to ATAG shares in an equity funding round planned for 2026.
Regulatory Achievements for Bentrio®
Altamira's 49%-owned associate, Altamira Medica AG (搜索), reached important regulatory milestones with Bentrio (搜索)®, a drug-free, preservative-free nasal spray for allergic rhinitis (搜索) prophylaxis and treatment. The product received marketing clearance under the European Union's Medical Device Regulation (MDR) during the fourth quarter of 2025.
Additionally, Medica obtained marketing approval from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), enabling partner Nuance Pharma (搜索) to launch Bentrio (搜索) in Mainland China in 2026. This milestone triggered a $1 million milestone payment to Medica from Nuance.
Financial Performance and Strategic Restructuring
Altamira's total operating loss from continuing operations decreased substantially from $6.9 million in 2024 to $4.4 million in 2025. Research and development expenses fell from $3.7 million to $2.0 million, while general and administrative expenses decreased from $3.2 million to $2.6 million.
The company recorded net finance income of $1.2 million in 2025, compared to a net finance expense of $0.8 million in 2024. Net loss for 2025 was $3.0 million, or $0.55 per share, compared with $8.5 million, or $2.99 per share, in the previous year.
Shareholders' equity stood at $3.0 million at the end of 2025, down from $6.6 million at the end of 2024.
Pipeline and Strategic Outlook
Altamira continues exploring partnering options for its CNS-focused assets, including AM-111 for acute sensorineural hearing loss (搜索) (orphan indication), AM-125 for acute vestibular syndrome (搜索) and other CNS disorders, and AM-102 for epilepsy (搜索) and other CNS disorders.
The company completed the legal and organizational carve-out process for ATAG in 2025, advancing toward the planned spin-off of a majority of the subsidiary's share capital. Altamira expects operating expenses to decrease significantly in 2026 following completion of the spin-off and its decision to terminate SEC registration and reporting duties.
Altamira's proprietary flagship programs include AM-401 for KRAS (搜索)-driven cancer and AM-411 for rheumatoid arthritis (搜索), both in preclinical development beyond in vivo proof of concept, utilizing xPhore (搜索) and siRNA payloads.
