Altria Partners with KT&G to Expand Global Nicotine Pouch and Wellness Product Portfolio

The non-binding Global Collaboration Memorandum of Understanding, announced on September 23, 2024, aligns with Altria's adjacent growth goals for international innovative smoke-free products that the company outlined in March 2023.

The collaboration focuses significantly on expanding the global demand for nicotine pouch products. The companies will explore opportunities to contribute their respective resources and capabilities, potentially including the expansion of Altria's on! (search) and on! PLUS (search) product portfolio to select international markets and strategic transactions in the modern oral space.
As a concrete first step, an Altria subsidiary has signed a definitive agreement with KT&G to acquire an ownership interest in Another Snus Factory Stockholm AB (search) (ASF), a Nordic-based nicotine pouch company that owns the LOOP (search) brand internationally. This acquisition will occur concurrent with KT&G's purchase of ASF.
Non-Nicotine Wellness Opportunities
The partnership extends beyond tobacco products into the wellness sector. An Altria subsidiary will collaborate with Korea Ginseng Corporation (KGC), KT&G's subsidiary and a leading Korean ginseng company, to explore opportunities in the U.S. energy and wellness segment. This exploration will leverage KGC's product expertise and capabilities alongside Altria's consumer insights and established go-to-market infrastructure.
Operational Efficiency in Traditional Tobacco
Both companies have agreed to jointly pursue ways to optimize operating processes for traditional tobacco products to enhance competitiveness in their respective home regions. This initiative complements Altria's Enterprise Goals by building capabilities that could transfer to international nicotine product efforts.
