BD and ChemoGLO Partner to Enhance Hazardous Drug Contamination Testing in Healthcare Facilities
Key Insights
BD (search) and ChemoGLO (search) announced a strategic collaboration to advance hazardous drug contamination testing in healthcare settings, combining rapid point-of-care detection with comprehensive laboratory analysis.
The partnership integrates BD (search)'s HD Check System, which provides qualitative results in 10 minutes, with ChemoGLO (search)'s LC-MS/MS analysis for quantitative reports on expanded hazardous drug panels within 3-5 days.
This dual testing approach aligns with 2020 consensus conference recommendations for both qualitative and quantitative surface contamination testing to better protect healthcare workers from exposure risks.
BD (search) (Becton, Dickinson and Company) and ChemoGLO (search) announced a strategic collaboration on December 4, 2025, to advance hazardous drug contamination testing in healthcare settings, aiming to improve the safety of healthcare workers through enhanced detection and monitoring capabilities.
Integrated Testing Approach
The collaboration combines BD (search)'s rapid point-of-care BD HD Check System (search) with ChemoGLO (search)'s comprehensive laboratory analysis. The BD HD Check System provides qualitative contamination results in just 10 minutes, while ChemoGLO's liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis delivers quantitative reports on an expanded panel of hazardous drugs within three to five days after sample receipt.
"With the BD HD Check System (search), facilities can quickly identify potential contamination, and through our collaboration with ChemoGLO (search), gain deeper insights into exposure risks," said Eric Borin, worldwide president of BD (search) Medication Delivery Solutions. "This dual approach helps pinpoint areas of improvement and reinforces our commitment to health care worker safety."
Streamlined Workflow for Enhanced Safety
The partnership offers healthcare facilities a streamlined sampling and testing workflow that enables more effective contamination monitoring and timely protective action. Once a sample is collected with the HD Check collection kit, it can be safely packaged and shipped to ChemoGLO (search) for further analysis.
This combined testing approach aligns with recommendations from a 2020 consensus conference on hazardous drug surface contamination, which encourages healthcare institutions to use both qualitative and quantitative surface contamination testing to better assess environmental safety and reduce exposure risks for staff.
ChemoGLO's Established Testing Capabilities
ChemoGLO (search) has specialized in hazardous drug detection and decontamination for 20 years, providing accurate, quantified measurements of surface contamination levels in hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, manufacturing facilities, and other settings. The company's ChemoGLO Wipe Kit (search) can test for 26 different hazardous drugs and provide accurate, quantified results within 3-5 business days.
"At ChemoGLO (search), the heart of our mission has always been to protect health care workers and patients from hazardous drug exposure," said Cara Zamboni, CEO at ChemoGLO. "By partnering with BD (search), we're combining speed and precision to help facilities act faster and more confidently to safeguard their teams."
Market Presence and Implementation
The ChemoGLO Wipe Kit (search) can be customized to meet projects of all types, sizes, and timelines, ships at room temperature, and is described as the most widely used testing kit in the world. Additionally, ChemoGLO (search) offers HDClean Towelettes (search), which are laboratory tested and proven to remove surface contamination of chemotherapy (search) agents, hormone drugs (search), controlled substances (search), and drugs of abuse.
Both companies will showcase their collaboration at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting in Las Vegas from December 6-10, 2025, with BD (search) at Booth 1017 and ChemoGLO (search) at Booth 1873.
