BD (search) (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a leading global medical technology company, announced a $110 million investment to expand its production of prefillable syringes in Columbus, Nebraska, addressing growing demand for biologic and GLP-1 (search) drug delivery systems. The investment will create approximately 120 new jobs and introduce BD Neopak™ Glass Prefillable Syringe (search) production to the facility, with supply expected to begin in mid-2026.
Strategic Manufacturing Expansion
The investment allocates $100 million to establish BD Neopak™ Glass Prefillable Syringe (search) production at the Columbus site, with an additional $10 million dedicated to enhancing cannula manufacturing capabilities. This expansion builds upon BD (search)'s recent $35 million investment to expand prefilled flush syringe manufacturing at the same facility, which added approximately 50 new jobs.

Advanced Drug Delivery Technology
The BD Neopak™ Glass Prefillable Syringe (search) platform is purpose-built to meet the complex requirements of biologics and combination products development. Available in 1 mL and 2.25 mL formats, the platform supports a wide range of formulation requirements, including high viscosity drugs and drug-container compatibility. The syringes are designed for seamless integration with autoinjectors, enabling flexible, patient-centric drug delivery in both clinical and at-home settings.
The expansion directly addresses increased demand for delivery systems compatible with GLP-1 (search) medications used to treat diabetes (search) and obesity (search), including drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy.
Supply Chain Resilience Initiative
This investment represents part of BD (search)'s broader commitment to invest more than $2.5 billion in U.S. manufacturing capabilities over the next five years. The expansion underscores the company's strategy to build a more resilient and responsive pharmaceutical supply chain in the United States by localizing production of critical drug delivery components.
