NTxBio to Establish $31M Biomanufacturing Facility in Plano, Texas Creating 170 Jobs

  • NTxBio is investing $31 million to build a new biomanufacturing facility in Plano, Texas, creating over 170 new jobs with support from a $1.5 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant.

  • The facility will produce pharmaceutical-grade raw materials for RNA and protein therapeutics, focusing on advancing treatments for cancer and rare diseases.

  • This expansion strengthens Plano's growing position as a biotech hub, complementing the planned $4 billion Texas Research Quarter life sciences innovation district.

Texas-based biomanufacturing company NTxBio has announced plans to establish a new $31 million facility in Plano, creating over 170 jobs and bolstering the state's growing life sciences sector.
The project, supported by a $1.479 million Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant, will focus on manufacturing pharmaceutical-grade raw materials for RNA and protein therapeutics development, with applications in cancer treatment and rare disease therapies.

Strategic Expansion in Biotech Hub

Founded in 2015, NTxBio (NTx) specializes in next-generation biomanufacturing solutions. The new Plano facility will complement the company's existing operations in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, allowing the company to scale production to meet increasing demand.
"We are thrilled to expand into our new facility in Plano as we grow to keep up with demand for NTx's biomanufacturing platforms," said Jamie Coffin, President and CEO of NTxBio. "Texas has a booming biotech community and an incredible talent pool in biological and chemical engineering, and we look forward to being part of that ecosystem."
The facility will assemble biomanufacturing instruments using domestically produced raw materials, strengthening the supply chain for critical therapeutic development.

Economic Impact and Government Support

Governor Greg Abbott highlighted the significance of this investment for Texas's life sciences industry: "Texas is the epicenter for groundbreaking, life-saving medical research and home to thousands of biotech and life science firms. This $31 million investment by NTx establishing a biomanufacturing facility in Plano will create over 170 new, good-paying jobs for Texans in our skilled and growing life sciences workforce."
The Texas Enterprise Fund grant of nearly $1.5 million demonstrates the state's commitment to attracting high-value biotech manufacturing. This investment aligns with Texas's strategy to position itself as a leader in advanced biopharmaceutical production and research.

Plano's Emerging Life Sciences Corridor

NTxBio's facility adds to Plano's rapidly developing medical and life sciences sector. The city recently approved plans for the Texas Research Quarter, a $4 billion life sciences innovation district being developed by Dallas-based NexPoint across 200 acres of the former Electronic Data Systems campus.
"The North Texas life sciences industry is thriving, and Plano is rapidly establishing itself as a premier hub for innovation in this sector," said Doug McDonald, Plano's director of economic development. "We are proud to welcome NTx to our growing roster of innovators."
The Texas Research Quarter development is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs during construction, with potential for over 30,000 jobs once fully operational, according to city documents.

Advancing Therapeutic Manufacturing

NTxBio's expansion comes at a critical time for the biopharmaceutical industry, as demand for RNA therapeutics and advanced protein-based treatments continues to grow. The company's focus on manufacturing pharmaceutical-grade raw materials addresses a crucial need in the therapeutic development pipeline.
The facility will leverage Texas's growing expertise in biological and chemical engineering, contributing to the state's position as a center for biomedical innovation. By focusing on domestic production of these critical materials, NTxBio also supports national efforts to strengthen pharmaceutical supply chain resilience.
With construction underway, the facility represents a significant addition to Texas's expanding biotechnology infrastructure and reinforces the state's commitment to fostering innovation in healthcare and life sciences.
