Chinese Medical Technology Companies Launch Clinical Trials for Revolutionary CT Imaging Systems in Shanghai
核心洞察
Two Chinese medical technology companies, NanoVision Technology (搜索) and Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare (搜索), have simultaneously launched clinical trials for breakthrough CT imaging systems at Shanghai hospitals.
NanoVision's phased array CT scanner delivers ultra-high-definition images with 3072x3072 resolution and reduces radiation dose by over 50 percent using a unique photon stream detector technology.
Shanghai United Imaging's photon-counting spectral CT system provides multi-spectral imaging that maps tissue components in exquisite detail while reducing radiation exposure by 60-90 percent.
Two Chinese medical technology companies have simultaneously launched clinical trials for revolutionary CT imaging systems in Shanghai, marking a significant advancement in domestic medical device innovation and precision diagnostics capabilities.
NanoVision's Phased Array CT Technology
NanoVision Technology (搜索) has installed the world's first phased array computed tomography device at Shanghai's Ruijin Hospital, where it will conduct approximately 400 clinical tests. The system represents a breakthrough in medical imaging technology, offering unprecedented image quality that was previously only achievable through surgical dissection.
"With this CT device, we can see ultra-high-definition pulmonary pathology imaging," said Yan Fuhua, director of Ruijin Hospital's radiology department. "Such clear images could only be obtained through dissection in the past."
The phased array CT scanner delivers remarkable resolution improvements, with lung images reaching 3072x3072 resolution compared to the 512x512 of conventional CT systems. This six-fold increase in resolution allows for clear visualization of lesions and their surrounding structures, significantly enhancing diagnostic accuracy for early disease detection.
The core innovation lies in the "photon stream detector," which employs a unique pulsed exposure scanning method combined with advanced computing algorithms for image reconstruction. This technology enables ultra-high-definition imaging while reducing radiation dose by over 50 percent compared to traditional CT scanners.
Shanghai United Imaging's Spectral CT Innovation
Simultaneously, Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare (搜索) has launched clinical evaluations for its photon-counting spectral CT system at both Zhongshan Hospital (搜索) and Ruijin Hospital. This domestically developed scanner represents another leap forward in precision imaging technology.
The system utilizes semiconductor detectors for highly efficient direct photon-to-electric conversion, generating multi-spectral imaging that maps tissue components including iodine, calcium, water, and soft tissue in extraordinary detail.
"Conventional CT transforms X-rays into visible light via scintillator detectors, producing images akin to black-and-white photos that cannot deliver true, color-coded precision imaging," explained Du Yanfeng, president of the CT Division at United Imaging Healthcare.
Clinical Applications and Benefits
Both technologies offer significant advantages for challenging diagnostic scenarios. The photon-counting spectral CT excels in cardiac imaging, traditionally one of the most difficult areas due to constant heart movement.
"This new 'camera' can sharply reveal vessels and the heart's structural details, offering more insight into cardiac anatomy and function," noted Yan Fuhua from Ruijin Hospital's radiology department.
For orthopedic applications, the phased array CT can improve the accuracy of minimally invasive surgeries and enable new clinical scenarios such as comprehensive osteoporosis (搜索) management, according to Yang Huilin, director of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University (搜索)'s orthopedics department.
Radiation Safety Improvements
Both systems deliver substantial radiation dose reductions, addressing a critical clinical need for safer imaging procedures. Shanghai United Imaging's system can reduce radiation exposure by 60 to 70 percent overall, with some organs experiencing reductions of up to 80 to 90 percent.
Regulatory and Market Outlook
NanoVision expects to obtain a Class III medical device certificate from Chinese regulators by the end of 2024. The company's independent development of core components domestically is expected to significantly boost upstream and downstream sectors in the related supply chain.
Zeng Mengsu, head of radiology at Zhongshan Hospital (搜索), highlighted the research potential of these technologies for early detection of cerebrovascular diseases (搜索), dementia (搜索), and other conditions, suggesting broad clinical applications beyond current imaging capabilities.
