The Baltimore-based neurotechnology company announced the funding will accelerate development of what it describes as a fundamentally new approach to treating neurological diseases (搜索) and brain cancer (搜索).
Revolutionary Approach to Brain Drug Delivery
The NeuroPASS (搜索)™ platform represents a departure from traditional drug delivery methods by leveraging the temporal cranial space to circumvent the blood-brain barrier (搜索), which has historically prevented many therapeutic compounds from reaching the brain. Dr. Chad Gordon, founder and executive chair of CraniUS Therapeutics (搜索), emphasized the platform's potential impact: "This is not an incremental advance—it represents a fundamentally new approach to treating neurological disease and brain cancer (搜索). We set out to build a platform that could help address a therapeutic barrier that has limited care for decades."
Dr. Gordon, a Johns Hopkins neuroplastic surgeon and pioneer in the field of Neuroplastic Surgery, founded the company after encountering a persistent clinical challenge in practice. He observed that patients with devastating neurological diseases (搜索) often succumbed not because surgery could not help, but because life-saving medicinal therapies could not reach the brain due to the blood-brain barrier (搜索).
Multi-Product Platform Development
NeuroPASS (搜索)™ is being developed as a multi-product platform with an initial roadmap of three complementary products intended to progressively expand therapeutic capability. The devices are designed to evolve cranial implants from passive reconstructive hardware into an active therapeutic interface capable of supporting long-term outpatient care.
The company has spent more than 15 years studying and investigating the temporal cranial space as an optimal site for therapeutic delivery. CraniUS holds 15 issued domestic patents supporting its platform and long-term product roadmap, as well as numerous international patents.
Funding and Commercial Strategy
The Series B financing follows CraniUS's $20 million Series A round in 2022, bringing total capital raised to approximately $40 million. The current round includes $19 million from private investors and $1 million in non-dilutive funding from the State of Maryland. The new capital is expected to support operations into 2027 and will fund regulatory submissions, manufacturing scale-up, and product testing towards future commercialization.
Strategic Board Addition
In February 2026, CraniUS strengthened its leadership team by appointing Oray B. Boston Jr. to its Board of Directors. Boston brings more than 35 years of global leadership experience across medical devices and pharmaceuticals from his tenure at Johnson & Johnson, where he held senior executive leadership roles within DePuy Synthes, most recently serving as Worldwide President of Trauma, Extremities, Craniomaxillofacial, Sports and Animal Health.
"CraniUS is advancing a differentiated approach to drug delivery for neurological disease," said Boston. "I look forward to supporting the company as it progresses toward clinical and commercial milestones."

Addressing Unmet Medical Need
