The data from the company's CNS-101 study, conducted in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and designed with scientists from ten top pharmaceutical companies, validates the effectiveness of digital biomarkers in neuroscience research.
Digital Platform Outperforms Traditional Assessment Methods
The analysis confirms that repeated home-based digital cognitive endpoints collected through Cumulus's proprietary NeuLogiq Platform are more sensitive to change than the Alzheimer's Disease (search) Assessment Scale-Cognitive Subscale (ADAS-Cog 13) composite benchmark, currently the primary cognitive scale used in Alzheimer's clinical trials to determine drug efficacy. The NeuLogiq Platform at-home endpoints demonstrated greater separation with Alzheimer's Disease pathology, specifically with p-Tau 217 (search), a key blood-based biomarker for AD progression, compared to the benchmark ADAS-Cog 13 over the study time-course.
Passive EEG markers (search) and naturalistic language-based biomarkers collected with the platform were found to be similarly powerful to the ADAS-Cog 13, despite the traditional assessment requiring administration by a trained clinician and taking approximately 45 minutes to complete.
Implications for Clinical Trial Efficiency

The findings demonstrate that patient and clinician burden can be reduced with home-based self-administered objective measures while simultaneously increasing sensitivity to disease progression. This enhanced measurement approach may detect benefits in early underpowered studies, providing confidence to advance to the next phase of clinical development, or alternatively, provide early evidence of lack of efficacy to redirect resources to other pipeline assets.

Prof. James Rowe, Professor of Cognitive Neurology at the University of Cambridge, emphasized the practical advantages of the approach: "High quality digital cognitive tests in the home setting, is a great step forward for trials delivery, bringing the clinical trial to the patient. CNS-101 has shown that trials can reduce reliance on centralized test centres and capture natural day-to-day variation. Getting excellent EEG at the same time makes this even more powerful."
