Sanner Group has officially opened its first North American manufacturing facility in Greensboro, North Carolina, marking a significant milestone in the company's global expansion strategy. The 60,500 square foot facility is dedicated to producing critical injection-molded components for medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging, as well as desiccant solutions for the healthcare industry.

Advanced Manufacturing Capabilities

The new facility features GMP-certified cleanrooms meeting ISO class 7 and 8 standards, equipped with automated environmental monitoring systems. The site incorporates advanced injection molding technology and high-speed desiccant filling capabilities, supported by state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for testing and metrology.
"This is more than just a new facility," said Christian Classen, CSO of Sanner Group. "It's a bold step forward in our global journey, reinforcing our long-term commitment to supporting our customers in North America with local production, cutting-edge technology, and world-class service."
The facility accommodates both white room and cleanroom operations, with full laboratory capabilities designed to support Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) services. An additional 20,000 square feet of expandable production space has been built into the site to accommodate future growth.

Product Portfolio and Market Focus

Among the first products manufactured in Greensboro are effervescent containers, the premium DASG-1 desiccant closure, and AdCap® desiccant canisters, with additional products planned for future production. The new filling room features automated high-speed desiccant filling lines specifically designed to serve customers in the North American pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries.
"We are thrilled to be opening the Sanner Group's first North American injection molding and pharma desiccant packaging facility," said Ted Mosler, President of Sanner US. "Strategically positioned in North Carolina, this site will be supported by our strong design & development and design transfer teams here in Durham and Pittsboro."

Strategic Integration and Global Expansion

The Greensboro facility operates in conjunction with Sanner's recently acquired Durham-based CDMO Gilero, which specializes in medical design, development, manufacturing, assembly, and packaging. This integration creates a comprehensive design and manufacturing ecosystem within North Carolina, combining Gilero's role as Sanner Group's Design Center of Excellence in the U.S. with local manufacturing capabilities.
The North Carolina investment represents part of Sanner's broader global expansion strategy. The company recently opened its second production facility in Kunshan, China, in 2023 and started production at a new state-of-the-art manufacturing site and headquarters in Bensheim, Germany, this year.

Industry Impact and Future Outlook

Sanner's investment in Greensboro strengthens its position as a trusted supplier of quality-driven primary packaging and CDMO services for the healthcare industry. The facility is designed to support pharmaceutical companies developing next-generation drug delivery combination devices, innovative diagnostics, connected health devices, and pharmaceutical packaging solutions that maintain physical and chemical stability.
"We're grateful for the warm welcome and outstanding support from the Greensboro community," added Classen. "This new site is a testament to what's possible when global vision meets local partnership. Today, Sanner opens the door to a new chapter: this time, in the U.S."
With manufacturing facilities now spanning Germany, France, Hungary, China, and the United States, Sanner is positioned to support the evolving needs of healthcare customers globally. The company, founded in 1894 and headquartered in Germany, supplies products to more than 150 countries worldwide and employs more than 820 people globally.
