The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (search) (FDA) has agreed to an Accelerated Approval pathway for toddlers aged 1-3 years, while the European Medicines Agency (search) (EMA) has confirmed a registration path for children aged 1-7 years in Europe. Accelerated Approval in the US
The FDA's decision to grant an Accelerated Approval pathway is based on the understanding that the Viaskin Peanut patch (search) addresses a serious condition and offers a potentially meaningful advantage over existing therapies. To secure final approval, DBV Technologies must complete a supplemental safety study, COMFORT Toddlers, which is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025 and enroll approximately 300-350 subjects. This pathway is contingent on a new safety study in 1-3 year-olds using the modified Viaskin Peanut patch (search).
The potential for a single patch to treat peanut allergies (search) in a broader age range (1-7 years) in Europe is a significant advantage.
