DEXA-PSYCH Trial Investigates Dexamethasone as Rapid-Acting Depression Treatment

Promising Preclinical Evidence

Safety and Monitoring

Given the potential risks associated with glucocorticoid therapy, the trial includes extensive safety monitoring. Participants with contraindications to glucocorticoid treatment, including immunodeficiencies, active infections, diabetes mellitus, or prolonged QTc intervals, are excluded from participation.

Adverse events will be monitored from day 1 through day 10, covering the intervention period and potential withdrawal effects. The study employs app-based monitoring through the Monsenso platform to track adherence, adverse events, and daily symptom ratings.

Broader Implications

If successful, the trial could introduce the first new class of antidepressants (search)Search drug with a novel mechanism of action in decades.
