DiAPREV-IT Trial Follow-Up
A follow-up study of the DiAPREV-IT trial, led by Professor Helena Elding Larsson, investigated whether two subcutaneous injections of Diamyd® (search) (GAD-alum) could delay the onset of Stage 3 Type 1 Diabetes (search) in children with multiple autoantibodies. The results suggest that Diamyd® may delay the progression from Stage 1 or Stage 2 to Stage 3 Type 1 Diabetes by up to 7 years in children carrying the HLA DR3-DQ2 (search) haplotype, although statistical significance was not reached due to the limited number of data points. No treatment effect was observed in children negative for HLA DR3-DQ2, reinforcing the potential benefit of a precision medicine approach.
HLA Genotype Variations
Professor Johnny Ludvigsson led an analysis examining the variation in frequency of HLA DR3-DQ2 (search) genotype across different geographic regions, as well as age and gender, in several trials testing Diamyd® (search) immunotherapy.
