Electra raises $350M IPO to fund registrational trial of ipsoprubart in secondary HLH

Proceeds will fund continued development of ipsoprubart (搜索), an experimental antibody in a registrational trial for secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (搜索), a rare immune disorder with no approved treatments.
Electra expects to complete enrollment in the Phase 2/3 study in the second half of 2027, with the drug also in an early-stage blood cancer study.
Electra Therapeutics (搜索) has raised $350 million in an initial public offering, funding that will carry forward development of its experimental antibody ipsoprubart (搜索) in secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (搜索), or HLH, a rare and sometimes life-threatening immune disorder that has no approved treatments.
The company expects to complete enrollment in the registrational trial of ipsoprubart (搜索) in the second half of 2027. Electra is developing the drug in a Phase 2/3 study in secondary HLH, with an early-stage study in patients with certain blood cancers running alongside it.
A SIRP-directed antibody approach
Electra's programs are built on antibodies aimed at signal regulatory proteins (搜索), or SIRPs. These proteins are found only on the surface of certain immune cells, which the company believes allows a drug to address selected immunological conditions without broadly suppressing the body's defenses. With ipsoprubart (搜索), Electra is testing whether depleting myeloid and T cells that express these proteins produces that kind of pinpoint effect.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company framed the strategy against the precedent set in oncology: "we believe our approach can do for immune-mediated diseases what precision oncology has done for cancer, transforming the treatment paradigm for patients."
Beyond ipsoprubart (搜索), another Electra prospect, a monoclonal antibody called ELA822 (搜索), recently entered Phase 1 testing and is being developed for other T-cell related inflammatory conditions.
Disease biology and current management
In patients with secondary HLH, overactive white blood cells overproduce cytokines, driving inflammation that damages organs including the liver, skin and brain. The condition is managed with a mix of steroids, chemotherapy and anti-cytokine medicines. Some patients also receive a drug approved for the primary, inherited form of the disease if earlier treatment fails.
Company background
Electra is a former subsidiary of the biotech company creator Star Therapeutics (搜索). Last year it secured $183 million in venture funding from backers including Nextech Invest and EQT Life Sciences. Another Star company, Vega Therapeutics, was acquired by Incyte in June in a deal worth as much as $2 billion.
Electra's offering is the first biotech IPO after Labor Day and makes it the 21st biotechnology company to price a new stock issuance in 2026. Every one of the 21 companies that have gone public this year had a drug in human testing, and all eleven firms that raised $300 million or more had a drug in at least Phase 2 development, according to BioPharma Dive data. With Electra's haul, 11 biotechs have raised more than $300 million in their IPOs in 2026, matching 2021's total and surpassing what was seen in the previous four years combined.
