How the Fentanyl Vaccine Works

Colin Haile, a research associate professor at the University of Houston and an Ovax (search) co-founder, explained that the adjuvant used in their vaccine is a modified, noninfectious enterotoxin derived from Escherichia coli. This adjuvant has been tested in 15 human clinical trials with other vaccines, showing promising results and minimal side effects, even in infants.

Animal studies at the University of Houston indicate that the vaccine could enhance the effectiveness of buprenorphine in managing withdrawals and cravings.
