Formosa Pharmaceuticals Partners with Singapore Eye Research Institute to Develop Advanced Ophthalmic Formulations
核心洞察
Formosa Pharmaceuticals (搜索) and Singapore Eye Research Institute announced a strategic collaboration to develop next-generation ophthalmic formulations using Formosa's APNT® nanoparticle technology.
The partnership aims to address unmet needs in corneal and ocular surface diseases (搜索) by enhancing efficacy, bioavailability, and safety of topical ocular therapies.
Associate Professor Yu-Chi Liu will lead SERI's clinical research efforts, bringing expertise in corneal neuropathy (搜索) and diabetic keratopathy (搜索) to guide formulation development.
Formosa Pharmaceuticals (搜索), Inc. and the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) have announced a strategic research collaboration to develop next-generation ophthalmic formulations targeting corneal and ocular surface diseases (搜索). The partnership combines Formosa's proprietary APNT® (Active Pharmaceutical Nanoparticle Technology) with SERI's clinical research expertise under the leadership of Associate Professor Yu-Chi Liu, MD, PhD.
Addressing Critical Unmet Medical Needs
The collaboration specifically targets significant gaps in the treatment of corneal and ocular surface diseases (搜索). By integrating innovative drug delivery platforms with clinical insights, the joint effort seeks to enhance the efficacy, bioavailability, and safety of topical ocular therapies for eventual clinical application.
Associate Professor Yu-Chi Liu, a clinician scientist at Singapore National Eye Center and Principal Investigator at SERI, brings extensive experience in corneal neuropathy (搜索) and translational medicine to the partnership. Her recent work in diabetic keratopathy (搜索) and ocular surface inflammation (搜索) will guide the development of formulations targeting complex anterior segment conditions.
"Collaborating with Formosa Pharmaceuticals (搜索) allows us to bridge the gap between benchside innovation and bedside application," said Associate Professor Liu. "Our goal is to utilize advanced formulation technologies like APNT to create treatments that are not only more effective but also less burdensome for patients suffering from ocular conditions."
APNT® Technology Platform
Formosa Pharmaceuticals (搜索)' APNT® platform represents a specialized approach to drug formulation, reducing the particle size of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to stable, uniform nanoparticles. This technology serves as a cornerstone of Formosa's development pipeline, offering solutions for improving the delivery of poorly soluble drugs to target tissues and organs.
The APNT® technology has received validation through the US FDA approval of BYQLOVI (搜索)™, a novel corticosteroid suspension for treating ocular inflammation (搜索) and pain following ocular surgery. The platform demonstrates applicability across multiple administration routes, including topical, oral, and respiratory delivery methods.
"We are honored to work alongside Professor Liu and her distinguished team at SERI," said Erick Co, President & CEO of Formosa Pharmaceuticals (搜索). "Initial efforts have confirmed compatibility of APNT and SERI's research models and prompt us to extend our partnership. SERI's reputation for excellence in vision research, backed by their comprehensive capabilities and facilities, are unparalleled. Together, we are excited to translate the research findings into better clinical outcomes."
Institutional Capabilities
Formosa Pharmaceuticals (搜索) operates as a biopharmaceutical company focused on areas of unmet medical need, primarily in ophthalmology and oncology. The company's proprietary APNT® technology provides a streamlined pathway for formulating poorly soluble drugs, enhancing their therapeutic potential.
SERI, established in 1997, serves as Singapore's national institute for ophthalmic and vision research. The institute's mission centers on conducting high-impact eye research aimed at preventing blindness and low vision. SERI functions as the research arm of the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and maintains partnerships within the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre.
