FSHD Society Launches Industry Collaborative to Accelerate Clinical Trial Development for Rare Muscular Dystrophy

The FSHD Society (搜索), SOLVE FSHD (搜索), and the FSHD Clinical Trial Research Network (搜索) (FSHD (搜索) CTRN) announced the launch of the FSHD Industry Collaborative, a first-of-its-kind multi-stakeholder initiative designed to improve how clinical trials for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (搜索) (FSHD) are designed, executed, and evaluated. The collaborative aims to generate datasets and actionable insights that reduce clinical development risk and support a more unified regulatory narrative for FSHD programs.
Multi-Stakeholder Approach to Rare Disease Development
The Industry Collaborative brings together industry experts in drug development, academic experts, technology partners, and funders to analyze biomarker, natural history, and clinical endpoint data. The initiative develops a platform for analyzing patient and clinical trial data specifically for FSHD (搜索), with goals to improve patient selection hypotheses and enhance understanding of clinical measures.

Pre-Competitive Data Analysis Framework
Unlike traditional single-sponsor data analyses, the collaboration operates as a pre-competitive effort to broaden the view across multiple datasets. The Collaborative functions under structured governance to enable cross-program learning and standardization of clinical tools for FSHD (搜索) while protecting sponsor confidentiality.
Key activities include new analysis of donated clinical trial data and natural history datasets to evaluate endpoint performance, variability drivers, and impacts of patient selection criteria. The initiative also focuses on development and validation of FSHD (搜索) biomarker assays using patient samples, which can be linked to imaging, patient-reported, and functional outcomes data.
Industry and Academic Partnerships
The FSHD (搜索) CTRN provides expert advisors and longitudinal patient data from more than 30 academic centers across 10 countries with expertise in FSHD clinical trials and natural history studies. Biopharma companies Sanofi and Fulcrum Therapeutics support the Collaborative, with Fulcrum Therapeutics donating clinical data from Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials of losmapimod to the FSHD Society (搜索) after the program was suspended in 2024.
Scholar Rock, a global biopharmaceutical company developing apitegromab for neuromuscular diseases (搜索) including FSHD (搜索), serves as a founding industry sponsor. Several additional drug sponsors are in advanced stages of formalizing their participation, with initial Collaborative work now underway.
Technology and Analytics Infrastructure
The Global FSHD Innovation Hub (搜索), a wholly owned subsidiary of the FSHD Society (搜索), provides strategic advisory, project and alliance management, and contracting services for the Collaborative. Technology partners engaged for regulatory-ready data analyses and FSHD (搜索) biomarker expertise include AMRA Medical (搜索), Immunologix Laboratories (搜索), and Springbok Analytics (搜索).
Analysis Group (搜索), a consulting firm with experience in evidence generation for drug development and regulatory evaluation, will conduct collaborative analysis of complex datasets to advance understanding of disease progression and endpoints, inform future clinical development programs, and maximize patient benefit from the data.
Building on FDA Engagement History
The project generates data addressing outcomes from prior engagements with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, including a 2019 Industry Collaborative Workshop identifying therapeutic development obstacles, a 2020 EL-PFDD Voice of the Patient Forum describing lived experience and unmet needs in FSHD (搜索), a 2024 Patient Listening Session on upper-body mobility and treatment outcomes, and a 2025 Adjunct Scientific Workshop discussing clinically meaningful endpoints in FSHD trials.

Open Participation Model
The Collaborative welcomes additional pharmaceutical and biotech company sponsors, technology partners, donors, and mission-aligned investors during its founding phase. Community donations and philanthropic capital will directly support completion and expansion of the work, accelerating generation of insights intended to benefit both the FSHD (搜索) community and ongoing clinical development programs.
