The 175,000-square-foot facility represents part of a $200 million strategic investment by Fujifilm and is expected to quadruple the company's iPSC-based research products and services manufacturing footprint.
Addressing Growing Market Demand
The new facility comes at a critical time as regulatory guidance in the United States and Europe has heightened interest in transitioning away from animal testing toward new approach methods (NAMs). iPSC-derived differentiated cells, which more accurately reproduce human biological functions, have been increasingly adopted in the evaluation of efficacy and safety at the preclinical stage of drug development.
"Completion of this facility comes at a critical time in the iPSC field, where FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics (搜索) has been setting industry standards for more than 20 years," said Toshihisa Iida, director, corporate vice president, general manager of Life Sciences Strategy Headquarters and Bio CDMO Division, FUJIFILM Corporation, Japan. Advanced Manufacturing Capabilities
The facility integrates state-of-the-art capabilities including cell culture manufacturing laboratories, process development laboratories, and a center of excellence for gene editing. These capabilities support both research-grade iPSC products and development services for partners developing next-generation cell therapies. The site will expand manufacturing of the company's iPSC-derived iCell (搜索) product lines, which are increasingly leveraged for NAMs in drug discovery.
The facility is designed to be scalable to accommodate a wide range of processes, from investigational drug manufacturing to commercial production, with an eye toward future demand for contract manufacturing of cell therapy products.
