FutureChem Receives Korean Approval for ProstaView Prostate Cancer Diagnostic, Marking Second Global PSMA-PET Agent

FutureChem (搜索) has achieved a significant milestone in prostate cancer diagnostics with the approval of ProstaView injection (FC303) by Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The radiopharmaceutical represents the second prostate cancer diagnostic agent approved globally and the first developed by a Korean company, positioning FutureChem as a key player in the rapidly expanding radiopharmaceutical market.
Superior Diagnostic Performance Demonstrated
ProstaView injection demonstrated superior diagnostic accuracy in clinical trials, achieving a positive predictive value (PPV) of 86.96% in domestic phase 3 trials involving patients with suspected recurrent or metastatic prostate cancer. This performance exceeded the 81.9% PPV of Pillarify (搜索), the current global standard diagnostic drug, and significantly outperformed existing imaging methods.
The diagnostic advantage stems from ProstaView's targeting of prostate-specific membrane antigens (PSMA (搜索)) expressed in prostate cancer cells through positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. Unlike conventional MRI that confirms anatomical structure, PSMA-PET directly confirms cancer cell expression, providing complementary diagnostic information.
"A lesion that was not identified in the previous video is clearly revealed with the company's drug. Even for the same patient, the results may vary depending on which diagnostic drug is used," explained Dae-yoon, CEO of FutureChem (搜索).
Compared to existing imaging tests including CT, MRI, and bone scans that achieved approximately 60.16% positive predictive value, ProstaView injection recorded a figure 26.79 percentage points higher, significantly reducing false-positive rates and improving diagnostic accuracy.
Technology and Market Positioning
ProstaView injection combines the positron-emitting isotope F-18 with a peptide targeting PSMA (搜索). After intravenous administration and PET-CT imaging, the radiopharmaceutical bound to cancer cells enables precise assessment of cancer location and status.
The radiopharmaceutical market is experiencing rapid growth amid expanded investment by global pharmaceutical companies. Interest has particularly increased following Novartis's success with Pluvicto, a metastatic prostate cancer treatment that surpassed 1 trillion won in annual sales after its 2022 launch and generates more than 2 trillion won annually.
FutureChem (搜索) has established technology transfer agreements with China, Europe, and Turkey, with phase 3 clinical trials underway in these regions. In the United States, similar prostate cancer diagnostic drugs generate approximately 800 billion won in annual sales, highlighting the market potential.
Treatment Pipeline Development
The diagnostic approval serves as a foundation for FutureChem (搜索)'s treatment development strategy. The company's FC705 (搜索) pipeline, a radioactive treatment targeting prostate cancer, has entered phase 3 clinical trials in Korea with phase 2a trials underway in the United States.
"If you use the same compound on the same target and change the isotope, both diagnosis and treatment are possible. It is a structure that is confirmed by diagnosis and continues to treatment," CEO Ji explained.
FC705 (搜索) demonstrated promising efficacy in previous phase 2 clinical trials, achieving a 60% objective response rate (ORR) and 93.3% disease control rate (DCR). While not comparative clinical results, these outcomes represent high-level performance compared to Novartis's Pluvicto, which achieved a 29.8% ORR.
"There were cases of complete recovery in clinical trials for terminal patients. Two out of 20 people have been confirmed to be completely cured, and four people overall," noted CEO Ji. "Existing drugs are based on parallel administration, but we have results alone. If it extends to parallel administration, the effect may be greater."
Market Expansion and Future Outlook
Prostate cancer represents the highest incidence among men's cancers in Korea, with the related diagnostic market projected to grow to approximately $13.16 billion by 2030. In the United States, more than 400,000 PET-CT-based prostate cancer diagnoses are performed annually in an expanding market.
Phase 3 clinical data in Korea are expected in the first half of next year, with interim data potentially attracting interest from major pharmaceutical companies for technology transfer opportunities. "Now, big pharmas are trying to judge by looking at global phase 2a data. We believe that there is a good possibility of technology transfer when the data comes out," CEO Ji stated.
FutureChem (搜索) plans to leverage this approval to accelerate domestic market supply while pursuing overseas market entry. The company has established its fourth diagnostic radiopharmaceutical portfolio following lung cancer (FLT), Parkinson's disease (Pidiview injection), and Alzheimer's disease (AlzaView injection), and has optimized production capabilities through collaboration with automated synthesis equipment specialist Trasis (搜索).
