Huxley Medical Receives FDA Clearance for AI-Powered Central Sleep Apnea Detection in Home Testing Device
核心洞察
Huxley Medical (搜索)'s SANSA (搜索) home sleep apnea test received FDA 510(k) clearance for central sleep apnea detection, demonstrating 100% sensitivity and 99% specificity in clinical validation studies.
The validation study included 325 patients across 7 clinical sites, comparing SANSA (搜索)'s AI-powered scoring algorithm against gold-standard polysomnography for detecting central apnea index ≥10.
Nancy A. Collop, MD, former Director of the Emory Sleep Center and past President of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, joined Huxley as Medical Director of Sleep Medicine.
Huxley Medical (搜索) announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance and commercial release of central sleep apnea (CSA) detection capabilities for its SANSA (搜索) home sleep apnea test. The Atlanta-based company also appointed Nancy A. Collop, MD, former Director of the Emory Sleep Center and past President of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), as Medical Director of Sleep Medicine.
Clinical Validation Demonstrates High Accuracy
The FDA clearance follows presentation of SANSA (搜索) clinical performance data at the SLEEP meeting earlier this year. The validation study analyzed data from 325 patients across 7 clinical sites, comparing SANSA's artificial intelligence-powered scoring algorithm against gold-standard polysomnography. The results demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 99% specificity for detecting CSA, defined as central apnea index ≥10.
"While less common than obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea is more prevalent in patients with cardiovascular disease such as heart failure and atrial fibrillation," said Rami Khayat, MD, Director of Sleep Services at Penn State, who presented the validation study results. "Accurately distinguishing between these conditions is critical, as it can significantly alter treatment decisions. This is an exciting step that will help clinicians stratify and manage patients more efficiently."
Addressing Diagnostic Gap in Home Sleep Testing
The clearance positions SANSA (搜索) among the few home sleep apnea tests FDA-cleared to differentiate central from obstructive sleep apnea. This distinction carries significant clinical implications, as the two conditions require different treatment approaches.
"Few home sleep apnea tests are FDA cleared to differentiate central from obstructive sleep apnea," said Brennan Torstrick, PhD, Huxley's Chief Scientific Officer. "By applying artificial intelligence to the hallmark physiological signals of CSA, we deliver strong clinical performance. Our extensive validation across multiple clinical sites and a diverse patient population further expands SANSA (搜索)'s multi-diagnostic capabilities and gives physicians even more confidence to choose SANSA for determining the most appropriate path to treatment."
Leadership Appointment Strengthens Clinical Expertise
Dr. Collop brings extensive experience in sleep medicine innovation and regulatory guidance to her new role. She has chaired multiple foundational AASM taskforces on home sleep testing, including development of the organization's clinical guidelines and technology evaluations. She currently serves as Editor Emeritus of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine and Section Editor of Sleep Medicine for Up-To-Date.
"I am pleased to join Huxley Medical (搜索) and support its mission to deliver more actionable and accessible diagnostic tools," said Dr. Collop. "My career has focused on advancing innovation in patient care, and I believe SANSA (搜索) has significant potential to further evolve the field of sleep medicine."
Chris Lee, PhD, Chair and CEO of Huxley, emphasized Dr. Collop's contributions to the field: "Dr. Collop has been a champion for patient-first innovation for decades and has fundamentally shaped the field of sleep medicine. Her contributions to SANSA (搜索)'s development have been instrumental. We are honored that she will take on an expanded role as we continue working to streamline care for any patient, anywhere."
Technology Platform and Market Position
Huxley Medical (搜索) specializes in diagnostic solutions leveraging proprietary expertise in biosensor development, physiological signal analysis, and artificial intelligence. The SANSA (搜索) platform's multi-diagnostic capabilities now extend beyond traditional obstructive sleep apnea detection to include central sleep apnea identification, addressing a critical gap in home-based sleep disorder diagnosis.
