This warning comes amid what IDSA describes as "an alarming pattern of government efforts to reduce Americans' access to vaccines and sow unfounded doubt about vaccine safety and effectiveness." In a separate statement responding to a vaccine-related executive order, Ronald G. Nahass, MD, MHCM, FIDSA, President of IDSA, emphasized that "the American people deserve childhood vaccine recommendations that are made by qualified experts, through an established, transparent process and based on the best available scientific evidence."
Dr. Nahass further noted that "at a time when measles (search) outbreaks are already threatening communities across the country, making vaccination more complicated and burdensome risks further reducing vaccination rates and leaving more children vulnerable to a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease."
The four societies collectively represent more than 13,000 clinicians, scientists, and public health experts. They reaffirmed their commitment to serving as "an objective, reliable and evidence-based source of information" for patients and communities while continuing to advocate for vaccine policies grounded in sound science.
