"We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch," read a statement shared on her social media channels. "Jennifer's impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even moreso."

L7 also issued a statement through their representative: "We are shattered by the loss of our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch, whose fierce spirit, humor and boundless creativity helped shape L7 and changed all of our lives forever. Jennifer was a true original who lived entirely on her own terms, and the impact she made on music, art and everyone lucky enough to know her cannot be measured."

Diagnosis and Clinical Course

According to a GoFundMe campaign launched on Finch's behalf, the musician was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer (search)Search disease. Initial treatment plans included a full course of radiation, and there was early optimism that therapy would restore her to "some version of normal living."

However, the clinical trajectory took a difficult turn. "Unforeseen complications led to multiple surgeries and a string of difficult setbacks," the fundraising post detailed. "The cancer and everything that comes with it have left her with significant physical limitations." A subsequent update described "a relentless series of setbacks" and noted that Finch required "a level of care that love, friendship, and sheer determination cannot safely provide around the clock."

Despite the severity of her condition, Finch appeared in good spirits in photographs shared by loved ones, showing her surgery scars from her hospital bed. Her bandmates later shared that she had been "buoyed by the outpouring of love and support from fans around the world" and was "really enjoying" having messages read to her.

Community Response and Fundraising

The GoFundMe campaign, which aimed to raise $350,000 for Finch's ongoing care, drew widespread support from the music community. Fellow rockers including Garbage, Bikini Kill's Kathleen Hanna, and Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament were among the thousands of contributors. The fundraiser was closing in on its target at the time of Finch's death.

Legacy and Final Tour Plans

Finch joined L7 in 1987, two years after the band's formation, and played with them for nearly two decades. L7 stood at the vanguard of the grunge and riot grrrl movement of the 1990s alongside acts including Nirvana and Bikini Kill, crossing into the mainstream with their 1992 hit "Pretend We're Dead." The band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2001 before reuniting in 2014 and touring regularly thereafter.

Finch had been slated to rejoin L7 for the upcoming U.S. leg of their "The Last Hurrah" farewell tour, scheduled to begin in October. She was forced to withdraw due to her health battle. In a statement, bandmates Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner, and Demetra Plakas said Finch had urged them to continue without her: "Although she will not be able to join us for the upcoming US dates, Jennifer has asked us to continue with the tour as planned. We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority."

Beyond her work with L7, Finch also performed with OtherStarPeople and the Shocker, launched her own label Little Pusher Records, and worked as a photographer.
