Labcorp (搜索) has acquired global central and specialty laboratory provider MLM Medical Labs (搜索), adding operations in the United States, Germany and South Africa to its clinical trial network.

MLM brings biomarker, specialty testing and regulatory capabilities, including the first fully CAP-accredited central laboratory in Africa, supporting complex multinational trials.
Labcorp (搜索) has acquired MLM Medical Labs (搜索), a global central and specialty laboratory provider with operations across the United States, Germany and South Africa, in a transaction whose financial terms were not disclosed. The deal expands Labcorp's international central laboratory footprint and strengthens its biomarker and specialty testing capabilities for clinical trials.
Following the transaction, Labcorp (搜索) said it becomes the only central laboratory provider with a wholly owned laboratory network spanning four continents: North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Laboratory Network and Capabilities
MLM operates labs in Memphis and Mönchengladbach, Germany, plus a subsidiary called Cytespace Africa Laboratories (搜索) in South Africa. The company, originally based in Mönchengladbach, acquired the Memphis site in its 2020 takeover of CirQuest Labs (搜索) and added further U.S. capacity by buying MD Biosciences (搜索) later that year. MLM bought Cytespace last year to add capacity in Africa.
Using its global footprint, MLM creates and validates laboratory developed tests to support specialized clinical and translational research. Those capabilities overlap with the central laboratory infrastructure Labcorp (搜索) has built up through deals such as its $6.1 billion takeover of Covance.
The acquisition increases Labcorp (搜索)'s presence in Africa, where MLM operates what the companies describe as the continent's first fully CAP-accredited central laboratory.
Strategic Rationale
Labcorp (搜索) said the combination brings together its scientific capabilities, operational infrastructure and global scale with MLM's existing laboratory network and specialty testing operations. The company expects the expanded network to support complex multinational clinical trials with more consistent scientific, regulatory and operational oversight.
Labcorp (搜索) named MLM's scientific and regulatory expertise, as well as its biomarker and specialty testing capabilities, as drivers of the deal, noting that they equip it to support complex clinical trial programs. The company said these additional capabilities are increasingly important as drug development programs become more scientifically complex and clinical trials involve broader international patient populations.
"Clinical trial sponsors today need scientific expertise, global reach and operational flexibility to advance increasingly complex development programs. MLM complements Labcorp (搜索)'s existing strengths and enhances our ability to support sponsors of all sizes, from emerging biotechs to leading pharmaceutical companies," the company said. "Together, we are well positioned to provide the capabilities, regional expertise and high-touch support sponsors need to advance innovative therapies worldwide."
Deal Context
The MLM deal supports a different part of Labcorp (搜索)'s business than its recent U.S. expansion activity, extending its support for the sponsors of clinical trials. Labcorp, an active dealmaker in recent years, has primarily acquired assets from regional labs to expand its U.S. footprint. In the second quarter, the company acquired Parkview Health (搜索) assets in Indiana and Ohio, and expanded in Oklahoma and Texas by buying Tribal Diagnostics (搜索).
Labcorp (搜索) spent $528.6 million, net of cash acquired, on takeovers in the first half of 2026. In late June, Labcorp agreed to pay a further $155 million for select assets of an outreach laboratory services business, a deal scheduled to close this quarter. Acquisitions, net of divestitures, added 1.2% to Labcorp's growth in the second quarter.
Evercore (搜索) served as exclusive financial advisor to Labcorp (搜索), while Pierson Ferdinand (搜索) and Hogan Lovells (搜索) served as legal counsel.
