Substantial Reduction in All-Cause Mortality
The study examined data from almost 30 million adults between 2021 and 2025, with approximately 23 million receiving at least one vaccine dose after France began its mass vaccination campaign in mid-2021, while 6 million remained unvaccinated. Individuals who received their first mRNA vaccine dose between May 1 and October 31, 2021, had an all-cause mortality rate of 0.4% during a 45-month follow-up period. Despite these variables, the mortality gap remained significant even after the exclusion of deaths caused by trauma or accidents.
Researchers emphasized that unmeasured behavioral factors, such as differences in health-seeking behavior, could not be fully accounted for and may have influenced outcomes. The researchers noted that while the study demonstrates a strong association, it alone cannot prove that vaccination directly caused the lower death rate, as the difference may be due to the vaccine's protection or to other factors such as differences in age, lifestyle, or socio-economic background.
The study revealed that vaccines did not increase the risk of death, with the unvaccinated group showing approximately 50% higher overall mortality compared to the vaccinated population over the four-year follow-up period.
