Matica Biotechnology (search), Inc. and Texas-based VaxDome Inc. (search) have entered into a partnership to advance VaxDome's novel antigen-agnostic antiviral-vaccine hybrid candidates toward clinical trials, the companies announced on July 6, 2026. Under the agreement, Matica Bio will provide process development, analytical development, and the production of both non-GMP and cGMP clinical materials at its purpose-built facility in College Station, Texas.
The collaboration centers on VaxDome's proprietary zIFV (search) platform, which takes a fundamentally different approach to antiviral protection. Rather than targeting specific viral antigens that may mutate over time, the technology rapidly transforms a selected influenza (search) virus strain into a safe, intranasally delivered, antigen-agnostic antiviral-vaccine hybrid. This design aims to provide broad protection against diverse known and unknown viruses without requiring characterization of viral genomes or unforeseeable mutations in advance.

Platform Mechanism and Therapeutic Potential
VaxDome's zIFV (search) technology mobilizes rapid innate and adaptive immune responses while avoiding harmful systemic inflammation, according to the company. The platform is designed to deliver safe, effective, rapid, and economic countermeasures against complex viral challenges. Influenza (search) serves as one of the initial disease models for the collaboration.
Beyond infectious disease, the zIFV (search) platform holds potential in oncology. VaxDome reports that the technology may arrest lung cancer (search) in situ by rapidly generating tertiary lymphoid structures within tumors. When combined with its ability to mitigate lymphopenia, the approach could spawn new therapeutic strategies for solid tumor indications.
Manufacturing Strategy
Matica Bio will manage the entire technical transition between development phases, ensuring the final vaccine meets all safety, purity, and regulatory standards. The CDMO brings expertise across multiple virus and cell modalities including AAV, lentivirus, and oncolytic viruses, and will leverage advanced single-use technologies and inline process monitoring to deliver rapid, predictable scaling from early-stage design through to clinical production.
