Novel Biomarker and Imaging Technologies
The licensed technologies include two complementary approaches to pregnancy risk assessment. The University of Cambridge has developed novel blood-based biomarkers that can identify the risk of common conditions associated with stillbirth (搜索), including fetal growth restriction (搜索), gestational diabetes mellitus (搜索), and preeclampsia (搜索). Meanwhile, the University of Edinburgh has created a non-invasive retinal eye imaging technology that aims to detect cardiovascular and metabolic changes during pregnancy.
"The current approach to assessing stillbirth (搜索) risk has not changed in 50 years," said Dr. Gordon Smith, Chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at the University of Cambridge and lead Principal Investigator of the In Utero discovery program. "Our technologies, discovered using exceptionally robust clinical data, can provide clinicians with comprehensive risk stratification at every stage of pregnancy. Ultimately, we believe this approach will save the lives of mothers and babies."
Addressing a Global Health Crisis
The technologies address a significant global health burden, with more than two million stillborn babies occurring worldwide each year. In the United States, more than one in 150 births end in stillbirth (搜索), with the burden disproportionately affecting families in low-income areas. The licensing agreement aims to accelerate the translation of these scientific discoveries into accessible diagnostic tools for women globally.

Wellcome Leap Collaboration
The newly licensed technologies were discovered and funded through Wellcome Leap (搜索)'s In Utero program, a $50 million initiative designed to create scalable methods to measure, model, and predict gestational development. Medicines360 is collaborating with Wellcome Leap to translate scientific discoveries from their In Utero program into products that deliver precision insights across gestation, ensuring every pregnancy has the best chance of a healthy outcome.

M360 ASPIRE Program Development
The licensing agreements advance Medicines360's M360 ASPIRE (Advancing Stillbirth (搜索) Prevention through Innovative Risk Evaluation) Program, which is redefining pregnancy care by developing novel biomarker technologies that enable risk prediction for conditions associated with stillbirth. The program aims to guide timely, life-saving interventions through comprehensive risk stratification at every stage of pregnancy.
The technologies are currently under development and have not yet been approved or cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or other regulatory authorities. The licensing represents a crucial step toward bringing these innovations from academic research to clinical practice, potentially transforming prenatal care and reducing preventable pregnancy losses worldwide.
