The $140 million investment at the parent company level will support MEDIPOST (搜索)'s planned Phase III U.S. clinical trial of its investigational mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy for symptomatic cartilage (搜索) defects in patients with knee osteoarthritis (搜索). Trial initiation is anticipated in early 2026, according to Edward Ahn, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of MEDIPOST Inc.
"The funding from Korea's top growth equity funds fuels MEDIPOST (搜索)'s global expansion as we prepare to advance into Phase III clinical evaluation in the U.S.," Ahn stated. "It allows us to move into late-stage development while continuing to build the clinical, operational and manufacturing foundation needed to bring scalable, off-the-shelf regenerative therapies closer to patients."
The investment will expand scientific and operational capabilities, build infrastructure, and scale manufacturing processes for the company's umbilical cord blood-derived stem cell platform.
Exclusive Japan Partnership for CARTISTEM
Simultaneously, MEDIPOST (搜索) has formed a multi-year exclusive partnership with Teikoku Seiyaku to commercialize CARTISTEM, an allogeneic stem cell therapy for moderate to severe knee osteoarthritis (搜索), in Japan. The agreement covers promotion license, sales, and distribution of the therapy.
Under the partnership terms, MEDIPOST (搜索)'s Japanese subsidiary will receive a short-term regulatory milestone payment of $10 million, an upfront payment of $8 million, and additional undisclosed sales-based long-term milestone payments. MEDIPOST will supply the drug substance and retain manufacturing rights, while Teikoku Seiyaku manages exclusive rights for the Japanese market.
Teikoku Seiyaku plans to leverage its network of orthopedic clinics and hospitals to support CARTISTEM adoption and distribution among patients with moderate to severe knee osteoarthritis (搜索). The company is preparing to expand its medical representative division in advance of regulatory approval, aiming to grow its orthopedics team to 100 members.
Proven Clinical Track Record
CARTISTEM is designed to regenerate cartilage (搜索) in patients with knee osteoarthritis (搜索) and holds potential as a disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD). Since receiving regulatory approval in South Korea in 2012, CARTISTEM has been used in more than 35,000 patients over 13 years.
The therapy is based on allogeneic human umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (hUCB-MSC), representing the first allogeneic hUCB-MSC therapy product to receive regulatory approval for treating knee osteoarthritis (搜索) in patients of all ages.
