The round was led by a group of institutional and healthcare funds, with Kaiwu Capital serving as exclusive financial advisor. The capital infusion will accelerate the continued development of MindRank's proprietary AI-native drug R&D engine—the Molecule Arts Platform (MAP)—and advance its lead program, MDR-001, an oral small-molecule GLP-1 (search) receptor agonist currently in Phase III clinical development in China.
MDR-001: A Rapidly Advancing Oral GLP-1 (search) Candidate
MDR-001, MindRank's most advanced asset, entered Phase III clinical trials at the end of 2025. The company has completed recruitment of 760 subjects across nearly 50 cooperating clinical centers in China. If development proceeds as planned, the drug is expected to reach the Chinese market within the next 2–3 years, positioning it to compete in the rapidly expanding GLP-1 (search) receptor agonist market.
The development trajectory of MDR-001 underscores the efficiency gains attributed to MindRank's AI-driven approach. The team completed preclinical candidate molecule (PCC) confirmation within eight months by synthesizing more than 80 new small molecules. From project initiation to Phase III clinical launch, the program took approximately 4.5 years with a cumulative R&D investment of roughly $23 million. MindRank notes this efficiency is more than 10 times the industry average; by comparison, traditional innovative drug development from design to Phase III typically requires 7–9 years and costs $300–400 million.
The Molecule Arts Platform: A Three-Tier AI-Native Architecture
Central to MindRank's strategy is MAP, a continuously learning R&D system built on a three-tier architecture. The first layer, the AI design layer, integrates the company's self-developed PharmkGPT biology platform, Molecule Pro small-molecule drug discovery platform, and Molecule Dance structural biology platform, covering the full process from preclinical research to IND application across multiple drug modalities including small molecules and peptides.
The second layer comprises a dry-and-wet complementary experimental platform. A dry experiment simulation system, Proxima Matrix, operates synchronously with the wet laboratory Proxima Foundry to continuously generate high-quality training data supporting AI model iteration. MindRank maintains 200 GPUs for independent training of biomedical foundation models and a self-built data production line.
The third layer, the Clinical Pro clinical AI platform, represents what founder and CEO Zhangming Niu describes as the core differentiator from other AI pharmaceutical enterprises. Rather than merely accumulating clinical data, Clinical Pro integrates clinical feedback into the R&D system to correct prior computational and experimental judgments. The platform has accumulated over 1,300 anonymized clinical-related data points based on the GLP-1 (search) pipeline MDR-001 alone.
"We do not simply define MAP as an AI tool, but as a continuously learning and evolving drug R&D system," said Niu. Pipeline Breadth and Organizational Efficiency
With a lean team of just over 40 employees, MindRank has built 15 innovative pipelines under development, five preclinical development candidates in reserve, and three IND clearances obtained in both China and the United States. Beyond MDR-001, MRANK-106—a WEE1 (search) and YES1 (search) dual-target drug addressing solid tumors with no effective treatment options, including pancreatic cancer (search)—has also received clinical trial approval. The pipeline spans multiple cutting-edge drug modalities including GPCRs, molecular glues, allosteric inhibitors, and dual-target oncology small molecules.

Niu Zhangming, who previously served as CTO of a German publicly traded AI healthcare company, articulated a vision that extends beyond the traditional biotech framework. "The valuation logic of traditional Biotech comes from the single-drug NPV model, while AI-native pharmaceutical companies validate more efficient methods of producing drugs," he explained. "As more and more drug pipelines advance, MAP can transfer past R&D experience to subsequent pipelines, forming a continuously reusable R&D flywheel."
The company draws inspiration from CADD pioneer Vertex Pharmaceuticals, which leveraged computer-aided drug design to build a $120 billion market capitalization through blockbuster drugs with annual sales exceeding $10 billion. MindRank aims to follow a similar trajectory for the AI era, ensuring that "every molecular design, experimental data point, and clinical result becomes the starting point for the next round of innovation." The company expects to advance blockbuster drugs through clinical stages to commercialization, using drug sales to generate cash flow that feeds back into AI platform iteration.
