We owe our patients to make decisions based on solid data."
Tarantino also called for broader reflection on the peer review process, noting that the retraction arrived after the study had accumulated 22 citations and had been included in at least one meta-analysis—and possibly after some physicians had already changed their clinical practice regarding immunotherapy administration timing. He advocated for journals to implement "a formal, consistent, in-depth review of each paper by paid professionals," suggesting that such a practice might have prevented a retraction at this late stage.
