The site, previously owned by Johnnie Johnson and Four Oaks Farms LLC (search), will house a new factory for the manufacturer of popular diabetes (search) and weight loss medications Ozempic and Wegovy.
Strategic Manufacturing Expansion

Johnston County Economic Development Director Chris Johnson acknowledged heightened industrial interest along the I-95 corridor, stating, "We have multiple projects considering Johnston County along the I-95 corridor, from Benson to Kenly and including Four Oaks. Adding to our tax base and creating job opportunities for our citizens is paramount."
Survey crews have been observed working on the Highway 96 South tract, indicating active preparation for the development phase.

The annexation decision faced opposition from local residents during Monday evening's town hall meeting, with community members expressing concerns about insufficient information regarding the project's impact on their area.
"I don't think this is the right move, making it an industrial site," one resident stated during the public hearing.
Local farmer Dean Benson, whose property would be affected by the development, voiced concerns about the facility's compatibility with the area's character. "It's just not a good fit for our community as a whole around here. We're a quiet neighborhood. It's always been family-owned down here. I mean, we do need development in Four Oaks. I agree with that. But this is just not the right type of environment."
The annexation will likely result in nearby residents being incorporated into the town limits, a change that some community members oppose. "If I wanted to live in the city, I would have moved into the city," said resident Ellen Smith, whose property borders the proposed development area.
Global Restructuring Context
The Four Oaks expansion announcement follows Novo Nordisk's recent decision to lay off 9,000 employees globally as the company restructures to "invest more behind its science, commercial capabilities, and manufacturing ramp-up."
