Nuvation Bio Partners with Eisai in €195 Million Deal to Expand Taletrectinib Global Reach for ROS1+ NSCLC

Nuvation Bio Inc. has entered into a strategic partnership with Japanese pharmaceutical giant Eisai Co., Ltd., securing up to €195 million (approximately $230 million) in a licensing deal that significantly expands the global footprint of taletrectinib, a next-generation treatment for ROS1-positive non-small cell lung cancer (search) (NSCLC (search)).
Under the exclusive license and collaboration agreement announced January 12, 2026, Eisai will gain development, registration, and commercialization rights for taletrectinib across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Russia, Turkey, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and several Asian countries including Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and India.
Financial Terms and Milestone Structure
The agreement provides Nuvation Bio with €50 million (approximately $60 million) upfront, followed by up to €145 million (approximately $170 million) in regulatory and commercial milestone payments. The company will also receive double-digit tiered royalties up to the high-teens as a percentage of future net sales in the licensed territories.
The first milestone payment of €25 million (approximately $30 million) will be triggered upon achievement of EU regulatory approval, either conditional or full, for taletrectinib. A Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) for advanced ROS1 (search)+ NSCLC (search) treatment is expected to be filed in Europe during the first half of 2026, with additional filings planned for Canada and other regions.
Taletrectinib's Clinical Profile and Approvals
Taletrectinib, marketed as IBTROZI (search)® in the U.S. and Japan, is a highly selective, oral, CNS-active ROS1 (search) inhibitor that has demonstrated significant clinical efficacy. The drug received full FDA approval in June 2025 for treating locally advanced or metastatic ROS1+ NSCLC (search) across all lines of therapy, following Priority Review and double Breakthrough Therapy designations.
The treatment is also approved in Japan, where it is marketed by Nippon Kayaku (search), and in China, where Innovent Biologics (search) markets it under the brand name DOVBLERON (search)®. According to Eisai's Chief Business Officer Terushige Iike, taletrectinib "is already becoming the standard of care in the U.S. just six months from approval."
Addressing Unmet Medical Need in ROS1+ NSCLC
ROS1 (search)+ NSCLC (search) represents a challenging subset of lung cancer, affecting approximately 2% of the more than one million people diagnosed globally with NSCLC each year. The disease presents particular complications, with about 35% of patients newly diagnosed with metastatic ROS1+ NSCLC having tumors that have spread to the brain. Additionally, the brain serves as the most common site of disease progression, with approximately 50% of previously treated patients developing central nervous system metastases.
The TRUST clinical program, comprising three registrational studies, has evaluated taletrectinib's safety and efficacy across different patient populations. TRUST-I and TRUST-II are Phase 2 single-arm studies that enrolled 173 patients in China and 189 patients globally, respectively, with confirmed objective response rate as the primary endpoint.
Safety Profile and Clinical Considerations
The FDA-approved prescribing information for IBTROZI (search) includes several important safety considerations. Hepatotoxicity (search) represents a significant concern, with 88% of patients experiencing increased AST levels and 85% experiencing increased ALT elevation. Fatal liver events occurred in 0.6% of patients, with a median time to first onset of liver enzyme elevation of 15 days.
Other notable adverse events include interstitial lung disease (search) or pneumonitis (search) in 2.3% of patients, QTc interval prolongation affecting 13% of patients with increases >60 msec from baseline, and hyperuricemia in 14% of patients. The most frequently reported adverse reactions include diarrhea (64%), nausea (47%), vomiting (43%), dizziness (22%), rash (22%), constipation (21%), and fatigue (20%).
