The agreement, announced on June 22, centers on utilizing PPI biomarkers and represents Protinah's first global commercial achievement.
The deal builds on a research support contract and network Protinah (search) established with the Michael J. Fox Foundation (search) (MJFF), the largest Parkinson's disease (search) research foundation in the United States, in November of last year. Industry analysts note that close collaboration with MJFF, a major force in degenerative brain disease research, served as a bridgehead for Protinah's technology to gain traction with multinational pharmaceutical companies.
Addressing a Critical Gap in Neuroinflammation Drug Development
Innate immune complexes are key protein assemblies resulting from PPI that trigger excessive immune responses, leading to neuroinflammation in the brain. While global big pharma companies have been actively developing therapeutics targeting these complexes, progress has been hampered by a lack of biomarkers capable of demonstrating whether drugs actually suppress patients' inflammatory pathways.
Therapeutics targeting the innate immune system are under development not only for degenerative brain diseases but also for a wide range of conditions driven by excessive immune responses and chronic inflammation, including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (search) (NASH), rheumatoid arthritis (search), type 2 diabetes (search), cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.

Unlike conventional protein concentration measurement methods, this technology analyzes the actual functional processes of protein binding and signal generation, thereby overcoming the limitations of existing technologies.
