Rani Therapeutics Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: RANI) has announced two strategic leadership appointments designed to advance its oral biologics delivery platform and clinical strategy. The clinical-stage biotherapeutics company appointed Dr. Sara Kenkare-Mitra (search) as Strategic Advisor and Jesper Høiland (search) as Head of Strategy, bringing combined decades of pharmaceutical development and commercialization expertise to guide the company's pipeline prioritization efforts.
Strategic Advisory Role Focuses on Platform Development
Dr. Kenkare-Mitra brings nearly three decades of experience in biologics and small molecule drug discovery and development, with a proven track record of global regulatory approvals and commercial launches across oncology (search), immunology (search), neurodegeneration (search), ophthalmology (search), and respiratory diseases (search). Most recently serving as President and Head of Research and Development at Alector, she previously spent more than 20 years at Genentech, where she played a central role in the development and approval of multiple first-in-class and best-in-class therapies.
Her teams at Genentech contributed to the global development and approval of therapies including Xolair®, Tarceva®, Avastin®, Lucentis®, Kadcyla®, Venclexta®, Perjeta®, Tecentriq®, Ocrevus®, and Polivy®. Dr. Kenkare-Mitra also helped advance the company's antibody-drug conjugate platform and is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

In her advisory role, Dr. Kenkare-Mitra will provide strategic counsel across platform and clinical strategy, including therapeutic area focus, product and drug candidate selection, and development prioritization. She will also advise on aligning development plans with regulatory and market landscape considerations, with a focus on advancing programs that maximize the probability of clinical success and long-term value creation.
Head of Strategy Role Emphasizes Pipeline Prioritization
Jesper Høiland (search), who has served as a strategic adviser to the company since 2023, was appointed to the newly created position of Head of Strategy. He brings more than 30 years of global pharmaceutical leadership experience, including extensive expertise in obesity (search) and metabolic disease (search). Most recently, he served as Global Commercial Officer at Ascendis Pharma, where he oversaw worldwide commercial strategy across established and emerging markets.
Prior to Ascendis, Høiland served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Radius Health (search) and earlier as President and Executive Vice President of Novo Nordisk's U.S. operations, where he led key launches and commercial strategy across the company's metabolic portfolio. Over his career, he has contributed to the development and commercialization of multiple leading therapies, including Novo Nordisk's insulin analog portfolio and Tresiba®, as well as Tymlos® and Skytrofa®.
In his new role, Høiland will be responsible for shaping Rani's corporate and pipeline strategy, including prioritization of internal programs, evaluation of new therapeutic opportunities, and support of the company's partnering and business development efforts. He will work closely with the executive team to align development decisions with long-term strategic and market considerations.
Platform Potential and Recent Progress
Both appointments come as Rani continues to advance its RaniPill® capsule technology, a novel, proprietary and patented platform intended to replace subcutaneous injection or intravenous infusion of biologics and drugs with oral dosing. The company has successfully conducted several preclinical and clinical studies to evaluate safety, tolerability and bioavailability using the RaniPill® capsule technology.
Imran highlighted the company's recent progress, including encouraging preclinical data with oral semaglutide and other RaniPill® programs, as areas where the new leadership expertise will be particularly valuable. Høiland specifically noted his impression with the preclinical semaglutide and GLP-1 (search)/GLP-2 (search) data Rani announced last year and how well the company is positioned in the obesity (search) space.
