RegCell (搜索), Inc. announced the closing of a fully subscribed Series A financing and a second non-dilutive grant from Japan's Agency for Medical Research and Development (搜索) (AMED), totaling $66 million. The $44 million Series A was led by Playground Global (搜索) with participation from new and existing investors, while the second AMED grant added ¥3.4 billion, or roughly $22 million.
The combined financing will enable an IND submission and advance RegCell (搜索)'s next-generation epigenetic reprogramming platform into a second autoimmune indication through Phase 2 as proof of concept. The platform is built on the discovery of regulatory T cells (搜索) (Tregs) by Nobel Laureate and RegCell co-founder Professor Shimon Sakaguchi.
Unlike conventional immunosuppressants, which have remained the standard of care for autoimmune diseases for decades, RegCell (搜索)'s approach is designed to distinguish disease-causing immune cells from healthy ones. Rather than broadly dampening immune function, the platform converts pathogenic T cells into stable, epigenetically reprogrammed, disease-relevant Tregs intended to restore immune tolerance at the source while preserving normal immune function. Existing autoimmune therapies act by broadly suppressing the immune system, from blocking cytokines to impeding trafficking to depleting immune cells; RegCell positions its mechanism as durable and targeted, upstream of those approaches.
