Rose Hill Life Sciences Names Bryan Smith Scientific Advisor as Psilocybin Pipeline Advances

Rose Hill Life Sciences (搜索) appointed Bryan Smith, a nearly 20-year Deciphera Pharmaceuticals (搜索) veteran, as Scientific Advisor to guide its preclinical and clinical psilocybin programs.
Smith will shape scientific strategy, direct translational research and biomarker work, and support regulatory and IND/NDA documentation across the company's pipeline.
The appointment comes days after Jama Pitman, a former Deciphera chief development officer, was named CEO of the clinical-stage psychedelic therapeutics company.
Rose Hill Life Sciences (搜索), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing psilocybin-based therapeutics for neurological and psychiatric conditions, announced the appointment of Bryan Smith as Scientific Advisor. The Boston-based company said Smith will inform scientific strategy across its preclinical and clinical programs and guide its proprietary pipeline from preclinical development through clinical validation.
Smith joins Rose Hill after a nearly 20-year tenure at Deciphera Pharmaceuticals (搜索), where he rose to Vice President of Biological Sciences and Research Site Head. According to the company, he played a central role in advancing novel small molecule oncology therapeutics from early concept through clinical development and regulatory approvals, developing expertise in target identification, drug discovery strategy, translational research, biomarker development, and IND/NDA preparation. He most recently served as a Senior Advisor at Deciphera and now sits on its Scientific Advisory Board.
He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a BS in Biochemistry from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and operates Smith Biotech Consulting LLC, through which he has advised on drug discovery, preclinical and clinical planning, pipeline prioritization, and regulatory documentation.
Scope of the Advisory Role
In his advisory capacity, Smith will help define Rose Hill's scientific strategy and research operations, direct translational research and biomarker programs, and support the company's regulatory and IND/NDA documentation processes. He will work alongside the company's leadership team and its research partners at Johns Hopkins University (搜索), the University of Guelph, and other collaborators.
"Bryan's breadth of experience—spanning nearly two decades of rigorous drug discovery, translational science, and regulatory preparation—makes him ideally suited to advise Rose Hill in our scientific agenda at this pivotal stage," said Jama Pitman, Chief Executive Officer of Rose Hill Life Sciences (搜索). "As our flagship psilocybin-for-stroke (搜索)-recovery program advances through Phase 1 in partnership with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and as we build out our broader pipeline in depression (搜索), PTSD, and autism spectrum disorder (搜索), Bryan's expertise in moving complex therapeutics from concept to clinic to regulatory approval will be critical."
Smith framed the role in terms of the company's evidentiary standards. "The combination of a first-in-class clinical program in post-stroke (搜索) motor recovery, a vertically integrated development model, and a team that holds itself to the same evidentiary standards as the best drug development organizations in the world, creates a platform with real potential to reshape how neurological and psychiatric conditions are treated," he said.
Four Programs Spanning Neurology and Psychiatry
Rose Hill maintains active research collaborations across four clinical programs. Its stroke (搜索) recovery program rests on an exclusive license agreement with Johns Hopkins University (搜索) for restoration of motor function after neurological injury using psychedelics, and is currently in Phase 1.
In depression (搜索), the company supports ongoing clinical research with the Canadian Centre for Psychedelic Science (搜索) examining psilocybin-assisted therapy, building on what it describes as a substantial and growing body of evidence demonstrating rapid and potentially durable effects in patients with treatment-resistant symptoms. Preclinical work is underway in autism spectrum disorder (搜索), which the company notes has limited pharmacological treatment options and significant unmet patient need, and in PTSD, where it is evaluating psilocybin's mechanism of action and therapeutic potential.
The company's proprietary formulation and manufacturing capabilities include novel lipid-based delivery systems designed to enhance bioavailability and support precision dosing, which it says underpin consistent production of pharmaceutical-grade psilocybin across programs.
Leadership Build-Out Continues
The scientific appointment follows the July 27 announcement that Jama Pitman had been named Chief Executive Officer. Pitman joined Rose Hill in May 2025 as Strategic Advisor and has been central to shaping the company's clinical development strategy, regulatory roadmap and commercialization planning. She brings more than 25 years of global biopharmaceutical experience, including service as Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer at Deciphera Pharmaceuticals (搜索), where she helped scale the company from a privately held biotech to a global, multi-product organization acquired for $2.4 billion.
"With active clinical programs underway and a growing body of scientific evidence supporting psilocybin's potential in areas of significant unmet need, the Company is positioned to make a meaningful contribution to the future of neurological and psychiatric medicine," Pitman said at the time of her appointment.
Rose Hill describes its operations as vertically integrated, spanning cultivation and extraction in Jamaica, formulation and manufacturing, and clinical development partnerships across the United States and Canada. The company states it is the world's inaugural legal exporter of psilocybin and is wholly owned by Rose Hill Health Holdings LLC.
