GRAIL has developed technology that can optimally select microscopic DNA (search) fragments related to cancer among hundreds of millions of DNA fragments in the blood and analyze them with AI-based dielectric data technology. This approach enables the system to predict not only the presence of cancer but also determine the anatomical location of tumors.
The company's flagship product, Galleri (search), can detect approximately 50 types of cancer early with a single blood test. Since its commercial launch in 2021, the test has accumulated approximately 400,000 testing records and is currently being evaluated in large-scale clinical trials with the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom.
Strategic Market Expansion in Asia
Through this investment, Samsung C&T (search) has secured exclusive distribution rights for the Galleri (search) test in Korea. The company plans to extend its partnership with GRAIL to Singapore and Japan, positioning Samsung as the primary gateway for multi-cancer screening technology across key Asian markets.
"Starting with Korea, we have formed a partnership with Samsung to provide multiple cancer early diagnosis services in Asia," said Harpal Kumar, president of GRAIL's overseas business. "Samsung's investment will greatly help achieve major milestones for the insurance coverage of gallery inspections in the United States and major markets."
Technology Integration and Digital Health Platform
Samsung Electronics (search) plans to leverage this partnership to enhance its digital health capabilities by integrating GRAIL's technology and accumulated gene-based early cancer diagnosis data with the Samsung Health platform. This integration aims to provide users with innovative healthcare experiences through personalized digital health services.
Park Heon-soo, head of Samsung Electronics (search)' MX division's digital health team, stated, "We will strive to provide a personalized digital health experience by incorporating Grail's clinical genetic data and technology into Samsung Electronics' digital health platform."
Regulatory Pathway and Market Outlook
GRAIL is preparing to submit its Galleri (search) test for approval to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sometime next year, representing a critical milestone for the company's commercial expansion. Samsung's Broader Healthcare Investment Strategy
This investment represents part of Samsung's comprehensive healthcare investment strategy through its Life Science Fund, which was jointly established with Samsung BioLogics and Samsung Bioepis.
