Saol Therapeutics Secures Up to $115M from Oaktree to Prepare SL1009 Launch in PDCD
核心洞察
Saol Therapeutics will receive up to $115 million in milestone-based capital from funds managed by Oaktree (搜索), with an initial tranche funding near-term launch readiness for SL1009.
SL1009 (sodium dichloroacetate) is under FDA review for pyruvate dehydrogenase complex deficiency (搜索), with an NDA resubmission filed June 30, 2026 and a target action date of December 30, 2026.
Additional capital tied to regulatory, clinical and commercial milestones would support SL1009 development in congenital lactic acidosis (搜索) and expansion of SL1002 into more pain indications and spasticity (搜索).
Saol Therapeutics has entered a definitive agreement under which funds managed by Oaktree (搜索) will provide up to $115 million in milestone-based capital, with an initial tranche directed at near-term launch readiness for the company's investigational candidate SL1009 and the remainder released as milestones are met. The transaction closed on September 11, 2026, and was announced on September 15, 2026.
SL1009 (sodium dichloroacetate, DCA) is in development for pyruvate dehydrogenase complex deficiency (搜索) (PDCD), a rare, life-threatening mitochondrial disease for which there are currently no FDA-approved therapies. Saol filed an NDA resubmission on June 30, 2026, and the FDA has assigned a target action date of December 30, 2026. SL1009 is currently not approved by the FDA for any indication.
Regulatory Designations and Companion Diagnostic
SL1009 has received Priority Review, Orphan Drug Designation, and Rare Pediatric Disease Designation. Saol anticipates receiving a Priority Review Voucher (PRV) under the Rare Pediatric Disease Statute upon approval. If approved, SL1009 would be used with a proprietary dose-determining genetic test; Saol and Medosome Biotec (搜索) will be filing a 510(k) for that test, which would serve as a required companion diagnostic for patients prescribed SL1009.
PDCD is described as a rare and life-threatening genetic disorder that can cause chronic energy deficit leading to lactic acidosis, profound developmental problems, and early childhood death.
Financing Structure and Pipeline Expansion
Beyond launch preparation, additional capital released upon achievement of specified regulatory, clinical and commercial milestones would support lifecycle opportunities across Saol's portfolio. These include development of SL1009 for Congenital Lactic Acidosis (搜索) (CLA) and expansion of SL1002 into additional pain indications and spasticity (搜索).
SL1002 is an investigational, novel perineural chemoneurolytic injection that utilizes Saol's proprietary CYCLOPHLEX technology. It is currently being advanced in development for the treatment of chronic knee pain related to osteoarthritis (搜索) and for limb spasticity (搜索), both in the adult population aged 18 and older.
Intellectual Property
Separately, Saol announced it has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office covering a method of administering SL1009 to patients following a ketogenic diet. The patent, once issued, is anticipated to expire in 2045.
