Since 2003, SCHOTT's Lebanon facility has specialized in drug containment solutions and delivery systems for injectable drugs, producing high-quality core and specialty vials made from FIOLAX borosilicate glass (search). These specialized containers are designed to carry and protect life-saving cancer treatments during transit, representing a critical component of the pharmaceutical supply chain.

Strong Financial Performance and Employment Impact
SCHOTT Pharma USA (search), the North American branch of Germany's SCHOTT Pharma, focuses on specialty glass, glass-ceramics, and other advanced materials. In 2025, SCHOTT Pharma generated an estimated $1.1 billion in global revenue. The company operates two manufacturing facilities in Pennsylvania – in Lebanon and Duryea – supporting more than 350 jobs across the state.

Pennsylvania's Life Sciences Ecosystem Growth
The SCHOTT expansion represents part of a broader trend of life sciences investment in Pennsylvania. In the last year, major pharmaceutical companies including Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly, Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories (search), and B. Braun (search) announced expansions in Pennsylvania, bringing new jobs and research and development investments to the state.
Pennsylvania's life sciences sector is valued at nearly $50 billion and employs more than 100,000 people across nearly 3,100 companies and research institutions throughout the Commonwealth. Over the past five years, Pennsylvania researchers and companies have secured over 10,700 new life sciences patents, representing the fourth-highest total in the country.
Economic Development and Future Investment
Since taking office, Governor Shapiro has attracted over $41 billion in private-sector investment, creating more than 23,200 jobs across Pennsylvania. The state has received national recognition for its business climate, with Pennsylvania ranking as the only state in the Northeast with a growing economy according to analysis by Moody's Analytics Chief Economist Mark Zandi.
Governor Shapiro's 2026-27 proposed budget includes nearly $100 million for the state's innovation economy through the Innovate in PA 2.0 program, which will provide capital for promising startups, fund clinical trials for life sciences companies, and enhance the Commonwealth's innovation network. The PA First Program, which connects businesses with trained workers and supports job retention and capital investments, will receive an additional $10 million for a total of $38 million in the budget.
