Patent Protection Strengthens Commercial Position
The newly issued patent reinforces Scienture's intellectual property portfolio for REZENOPY (search), which received FDA approval on April 19, 2024. REZENOPY (search) leverages the proven naloxone hydrochloride molecule in a familiar nasal spray format while delivering increased effectiveness against potent opioids. The 10 mg formulation is specifically designed for patients who often require multiple doses of lower-strength naloxone for stabilization in emergency situations.
Addressing Critical Market Need
The product targets a substantial market opportunity, with IQVIA data from September 2025 indicating total annual sales of $154 million and unit volume of 9.3 million for naloxone in the U.S. market. "REZENOPY (search) addresses a critical public health need with a differentiated, high dosage formulation designed to combat today's more potent opioids," stated Shankar Hariharan, executive chairman and co-CEO of Scienture.
The higher-dose formulation is intended to support opioid receptor (search) antagonism and may help address overdose situations where multiple or potent opioids are involved. This addresses an unmet medical need as the opioid crisis continues to evolve with increasingly potent substances requiring more robust emergency interventions.
Commercial Launch Timeline
Scienture maintains its planned launch timeline, with manufacturing efforts on track for product readiness in the first quarter of 2026. "We anticipate loading REZENOPY (search) into the wholesale channel during Q1 2026, with commercial availability beginning in early Q2 2026," Hariharan confirmed.
The company secured exclusive U.S. commercialization rights through a definitive agreement with Summit Biosciences Inc (search)., a Kindeva subsidiary, in March 2025. Under this arrangement, Summit will manufacture and commercially supply REZENOPY (search), while Scienture will handle sales, marketing, and distribution through its commercial operations infrastructure.
Product Specifications and Safety Profile
REZENOPY (search) is indicated for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose (search) in adult and pediatric patients, manifested by respiratory and/or central nervous system depression (search). The nasal spray is supplied as a carton containing two blister packages, each with a single spray device for intranasal use only.
Clinical study data showed adverse reactions including upper abdominal pain, nasopharyngitis, and dysgeusia. The product requires storage between 2°C to 25°C (36°F to 77°F), with excursions permitted up to 40°C (104°F), and protection from light and freezing temperatures.
