The appointment brings internationally recognized expertise in cardiac electrophysiology to the Berlin-based clinical research organization, which specializes in cardiovascular therapies and medical devices.
Expanding Drug Safety Infrastructure
Prof. Haverkamp will focus on building and expanding structured safety services at SCIRENT (search), with particular emphasis on establishing Data Safety Monitoring Committees (DSMCs) and Clinical Event Committees (CECs). Distinguished Career in Cardiovascular Medicine
Prof. Haverkamp brings more than three decades of scientific and clinical experience to his new role. His expertise spans acquired and inherited arrhythmias (search), heart failure (search), cardiomyopathies (search), and cardiogenetics, with research encompassing experimental, translational, and clinical investigations addressing disease mechanisms, diagnostics, and therapeutic strategies.
In recent years, his work has increasingly focused on artificial intelligence-enhanced cardiac diagnostics, contributing to advances in precision cardiology. His scientific achievements are reflected in more than 420 peer-reviewed publications in leading cardiovascular journals.
Academic and Clinical Background
Prof. Haverkamp is a board-certified specialist in internal medicine and cardiology. After studying medicine in Münster, he completed his specialist training at the University Hospital Münster (search), where he later served as senior physician and head of electrophysiology until 2002. Since then, he has been affiliated with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where he holds a professorship in electrophysiology.
At the Department of Cardiology at Campus Virchow-Klinikum, he led the electrophysiology unit until the end of 2017 and served as acting head of the department from 2009 to 2014. He maintains active membership in the German Cardiac Society (search) and the European Society of Cardiology, contributing to clinical guidelines, scientific exchange, and educational initiatives.
