SCYNEXIS Wins BARDA Contract Worth Up to $214M for Second-Generation Antifungal SCY-247

SCYNEXIS has been awarded a contract by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA (搜索)) to advance SCY-247, its second-generation fungerp antifungal candidate, for the treatment and prevention of serious invasive fungal infections (搜索). The contract provides up to approximately $214 million in potential funding if all options are exercised and may be extended for up to 10 years.
BARDA (搜索) is part of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The award is structured as a cost-share arrangement, with BARDA supporting eligible SCY-247 costs, including direct and general and administrative expenses. SCYNEXIS said it expects to fund its share of near-term program costs within its existing operating plan.
Base Period Funds Phase 2 in Invasive Candidiasis
The initial base period of the contract provides approximately $18.5 million to support advancement of oral and intravenous SCY-247 into a Phase 2 trial in patients with invasive candidiasis (搜索). If all options are exercised, the contract could fund development of SCY-247 from its current stage through NDA submission for two indications: treatment of invasive candidiasis and prevention of invasive fungal infections (搜索) in high-risk patients.
Invasive candidiasis (搜索) occurs when Candida yeast enters the bloodstream and affects deep parts of the body, unlike common infections of the mouth or vagina. SCYNEXIS noted that invasive fungal infections (搜索) remain a significant public health threat, with limited treatment options and increasing resistance to existing therapies.

A Differentiated Structural Class
SCY-247 is a second-generation triterpenoid (fungerp) antifungal. As a member of a novel structural class, it has a differentiated mechanism of action from existing antifungal classes and has demonstrated in vitro activity against a broad range of fungal pathogens, including strains resistant to currently available therapies.
According to the company, the structure and mechanism of action of fungerps offer advantages over other antifungal classes such as echinocandins. SCYNEXIS is developing its fungerps for both intravenous and oral administration, whereas echinocandins are only offered intravenously. Fungerps also offer deeper tissue penetration compared with echinocandins and a more favorable safety profile, according to the company.
SCY-247 has been granted Orphan, Qualified Infectious Disease Product (QIDP) and Fast Track designations by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. SCYNEXIS is developing both oral and intravenous formulations; positive Phase 1 single- and multiple-ascending-dose data for the oral formulation were reported in September 2025, and a Phase 1 study of the intravenous formulation has completed dosing with analysis ongoing.
Pipeline and Platform Context
SCYNEXIS' proprietary antifungal platform, fungerps, includes BREXAFEMME (ibrexafungerp tablets), the first approved representative of the class, which has been licensed to GSK. Brexafemme was approved in 2021 for vulvovaginal candidiasis and refractory vulvovaginal candidiasis.
The company said the BARDA (搜索) award does not change its previously communicated development plans for SCY-770 (搜索), its lead product candidate for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (搜索) (ADPKD), which has been granted Orphan Drug designation, or its projected cash runway into 2029. SCYNEXIS said the partnership strengthens its pipeline by allowing it to advance two programs into Phase 2.
