Takeda Reports Solid Q1 FY2026 Results, Secures First Approval for Narcolepsy Drug ORZEYFUL in China

Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited reported its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026, demonstrating solid operational momentum and advancing key late-stage pipeline assets toward commercialization. The Osaka-based company announced that revenue increased by 10.2% versus the prior-year period on an actual exchange rate (AER) basis, while decreasing 0.5% on a constant exchange rate (CER) basis, as the negative impact from the loss of exclusivity of VYVANSE was largely offset by growth from core in-line brands.
Core Operating Profit increased by 11.5% on an AER basis and decreased by 0.5% on a CER basis, reflecting continued growth investments supported by the company's transformation program. Reported Operating Profit rose 9.1% on an AER basis. Adjusted Free Cash Flow amounted to JPY 68.6 billion for the quarter.

ORZEYFUL Secures First Approval in China
A key milestone for Takeda's pipeline came with the first regulatory approval of ORZEYFUL (oveporexton) (search) in China. ORZEYFUL is an orexin receptor (search) agonist with a first-in-class mechanism of action, designed to address the orexin deficiency that causes narcolepsy type 1 (search) (NT1). New drug applications for the therapy are currently under review in the United States and Japan, with launch preparations underway across all three markets for the second half of the fiscal year.
At SLEEP 2026, Takeda presented Phase 3 clinical trial results demonstrating that ORZEYFUL improved daily functioning, cognition, and nighttime sleep in patients with narcolepsy type 1 (search).
Rusfertide and Zasocitinib Advance Toward Market
Takeda's late-stage pipeline features two additional high-potential assets. Rusfertide, a potential first-in-class hepcidin mimetic for the treatment of adults with polycythemia vera (search) (PV), demonstrated significant improvements in hematocrit control and phlebotomy reduction in a Phase 3 clinical trial. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted Priority Review for rusfertide, and Takeda is preparing for a commercial U.S. launch expected in the second half of 2026.
Zasocitinib, a next-generation, highly selective and potent TYK2 (search) inhibitor, achieved positive topline results across the primary endpoint and all key secondary endpoints in a head-to-head Phase 3 clinical trial against deucravacitinib. The oral therapy, administered once daily with no fasting restrictions, demonstrated consistent, high rates of skin clearance across the body, including hard-to-treat and high-impact sites in Phase 3 psoriasis (search) studies. Takeda is making investments toward regulatory submissions in 2026, with a commercial launch anticipated in the first half of 2027.
Outlook and Capital Allocation
Takeda maintained its full-year FY2026 forecast and management guidance with no changes. The company's annual dividend forecast remains at JPY 204 per share under its progressive dividend policy. A Capital Markets Day is scheduled for December 11, 2026, in Tokyo, where the company plans to share a detailed strategic roadmap for its two-horizon growth strategy.
