The three-year results from the GATHER2 open-label extension trial demonstrated that patients receiving continuous Izervay treatment achieved a 40.5% reduction in geographic atrophy (search) lesion growth. Patients who switched from sham to active treatment experienced a 37.1% reduction in lesion growth, indicating the therapy's sustained benefit even when initiated later in the disease course.
"We're moving the needle in GA, but we're all excited to move it more," said David A. Eichenbaum, MD, FASRS, of Retina Vitreous Associates of Florida, highlighting both the progress made and the continued need for more effective treatments.
Addressing Unmet Medical Need

"We would like therapies that do more, and the good news is we have a robust pipeline of early-stage assets that have a lot of promise," Eichenbaum noted, pointing to the encouraging development landscape for geographic atrophy (search) treatments.

The Retina Subspecialty Day also featured new data on interleukin-6 inhibitors (search) for the treatment of uveitic macular edema (search), expanding the scope of retinal therapeutic research beyond geographic atrophy (search).
